Sky Stream Remote and Sonos Beam do not work together

I have just bought a Sonos Beam to upgrade from a Sonos Ray.  The Beam connects to the TV via HDMI ARC and the remote will not control the volume on the Sonos.  My previous set up with Sonos Ray works with the Sky Stream remote as it is connected via Optical digital cable.  I don't understand why Ray works and Bean doesn't.  TV is a Sony Bravia

@Dmills1910 have you tried reprogramming the remote by pressing and holding the 7 & 9 buttons down followed by the 1 & 3 buttons and following tge onscreen remotes to either controlhour new kit or the Tv's volume which should control a sound device using ARC connection? If you havent the remote is sending infra red commands which controlled your old set up.

@Dmills1910  That's good advice from @Chrisee and just for the record I have the Sonos Beam and it works perfectly so it's not a problem with either being incompatible.
