Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

@Paul.Oz  I think your photos prove the issue is hardware. Research shows that the Broadcom chip is faster more efficient and better at handling HLG which is power intensive. I suspect sky know this and are attempting to perform some kind of software update to both boxes which takes some of the pressure of the chips which will hopefully help the performance of the V1 and Realtek chip. I also suspect that sky knew there was an issue with HLG and the Realtek chip performance which is why they swapped over. The sky stream box is a straight copy of the Xi Xfinity box in America - Comcast had no relationship with Broadcom and clearly went for the cheapest option. I suspect that with the issues sky have fed in and reinstated a relationship with Broadcom to provide the better chips that can handle HLG.  xfinity do not use HLG so when the box was built for them the choice of a better chip may not have been a factor

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

@Tesla451 then why are you so worried about posting on this topic if yours is perfectly fine..? Agenda much..?

You've just had your "widely believed" & "rumoured" Ai 'evidence' debunked. So just accept you don't really know & move on.

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

Leaving aside whatever secret code conversation is going on here, I'm on match 3 UHD football Channels 401 & 922 with Puck V2 and so far no problems. 🙂

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

@splatto you will be as you are using a V2 box with the Broadcom 72174 chipset which can handle HLG. I haven't seen one post on here with anyone using a V2 box that has a problem. Open invitation for anyone with a V2 box that has the benny hill affect on sky sports UHD please post and post a copy of your chipset via the Disney plus help/diagnostics page. I can guarantee that anyone with a Broadcom 72174 chipset will not have an issue.

To eatablsih was chipset your sky stream box has open up the Disney plus app, go to help, then go to diagnostics, go across to the word Chipset

@Tesla451

"I think your photos prove the issue is hardware."

For the hundreth time, no it doesn't. A hardware issue is when the hardware has developed a fault. It hasn't. The current server/software implementation works with v2 but not consistently with v1. This is a software/server issue, not a hardware issue. If it is a hardware issue it cannot be fixed with software/server changes - but it obvisuly can be as v1 pucks used to be able to show UHD sport fine.

No one is saying there are no differences between v1 and v2. No one is saying v2 performance is not better than v1. No one is saying that v2 pucks do not solve the issue. But none of these fact mean that these is a hardware issue with v1.

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

Due to the fact that this issue doesn't occur on sky glass either, can I ask anyone who has sky glass to go in to the Disney plus app and identify what chipset sky glass uses please

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

@mehere77 In your opinion. Do you work as an technical sky stream designer/engineer for sky?

If not my opinion is as valid as yours.

I believe the issue is hardware and relates to the Realtek chipset which can't handle HLG live broadcasts, when being used within the low latency channel it exposes the chipset to too much stress and it fails.

V2 box uses Broadcom chipset / no issues

Sky Glass uses Broadcom chipset (TBC) my suspicion it does - no issues

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

My Sky Glass Gen2 Chipset is Amlogic T962x3. Never had an issue with it.

My Gen 1 is using the Amlogic T962x3 chipset. No issues at all.

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

@Tesla451 Feel free to disagree with me. I was letting the forum know what has worked for me. Since I last posted we have moved onto chipsets. Mine is Realtek. I can assure you and everyone else today's Palace/Newcastle game on 904 is stutter free.

As a long time Spurs fan I think I'd prefer the "Benny Hill" effect. 😁

Re: Sky Sports UHD picture keeps stuttering

I’ve been following the recent comments and I wanted to jump back in to offer a quick apology if my previous post about the technical specs steered the conversation into a bit of an argument or caused any friction. That certainly wasn’t my intention!

I only highlighted the chipset differences (Realtek vs. Broadcom) to debunk the common claim that the hardware is identical. I felt it was important to clarify that there is a physical difference under the hood, especially when we are trying to troubleshoot why some people are struggling while others aren't.

Ultimately, the specifics of the chip matters less than the fact that we all just want a resolution. It’s worth noting that the original pucks worked perfectly for nearly two years for most of us. However, as the software has evolved and Sky has added more features and complexity to the interface, it’s possible that the newer firmware is simply placing greater demands on the hardware than it used to.

I’m lucky that the variant "B" has solved it for me, but the focus should definitely remain on Sky finding a fix for everyone - regardless of which puck they happen to have. Let’s hope for an update soon that gets everyone back to a stutter-free experience!
