Sky Q vs Sky stream

Hi all

my dad is a current Sky user and has a old entertainment package which comes through the dish with the old large box.

he is looking to upgrade and popped into the local Sky store today for some advice.

Ive looked at the packages available and it seems he is best off getting the Sky stream Essentail package and adding the sports option on.   This is with a 300mb fibre connection to support the streaming which he needs to change broadband from BT copper line as overpaying there too.  This would come out at £57 a month for the above package.   £15 essentail TV, £27 broadband, £20 sky sports add on.

The staff in the shop said use the Essentail TV however use Sky Q and incur a cost of £40.

i can't work out the reasoning why a Sky Q box is recommended and have greater costs than use the Sky stream option for £57 a month, and use a more modern reliable service given the dish he has up is probably 15-20 year old and getting old technology now.

Also, I myself am a Sky broadband customer living at a different address.   Couldn't use my referral link to sign him up for Sky stream and Sky broadband, given that he is a NEW customer to those services?   (As said above, he is a current long standing Sky entertainment/TV customer)

the terms do state that it is new customers to that service, given it lists the new services individually rather than just a generic customer of Sky.  See terms quote below

2.4. Your referred friends are eligible for a reward if they are either: a) a new customer subscribing to Sky Live, Sky Glass, Sky Broadband or Sky Stream. If they are subscribing to Sky Live, they must also be a new Sky Glass customer. They must live at a different UK address to you and have or set up a Sky account using their own payment details. b) a new or existing Sky customer subscribing to Sky Mobile for the first time. They must have or set up a Sky account using their own payment details

any help is appreciated,

thanks

New customers are defined as customers who have had no Sky TV service for the past year. Customers looking to switch between Sky +, Sky Q and Sky Glass/Stream aren't considered as new customers and therefore can't get the same deals available as new customers.

Sky Stream, Sky Glass Air and Sky Broadband customer

do you know anything about why the store staff were saying Sky Q over Sky stream?

It's unusual for Sky employees to push Q over Stream as they are normally told to try and get everyone on to streaming.

It's perhaps a personal preference thing - many people still do prefer Sky Q due to its proper recording capability and the fact that if the dish, cabling or box isn't working Sky will still send an engineer to sort out the issues. This is still preferable for many people who are older or not tech-savvy and who don't want to be faffing around trying to improve their WiFi.
