Recording films from terrestrial tv channels

When using the red button to record a film on 4 Film, I then find the film is not recorded but to watch it i need to upgrade to Sky cinema

This appears to be a sneaky plan by Sky to force people to get their cinema channel

Thats correct, typically for shows broadcast on the major terrestial channels BBC, ITV, C4 and C5 cloud recordings aren't taken and instead when adding a show or film to your playlist it will play it back from each broadcasters catch-up app ( providing the broadcast as the catchup rights for that show/film). Sky can't just take cloud recordings of a show broadcast on another channel, they can only do this when they have the legal rights to do so, and typically these broadcasters would prefer traffic to their own apps rather than Sky being allowed to take cloud recordings.

When opening the show on your playlist, scroll down to the Available Now rail as some films/shows are available on multiple catch-up app and when highlighting the available now rail it will display a number of "Play on X" buttons for each service that film/programme is available on.

More accurately it is the customers lack of understanding of how Sky Stream works.

Re: Recording films from terrestrial tv channels

@mikee70 basically a braodcaster may hold broadcast rights but not On Demand rights.. So they're not allowed to trigger a cloud recording because playback would be classed as on demand but more confusingly, they might have playback rights when accessed directly through their app but adding to your Sky Stream/Glass would trigger cloud recording/on demand rights...

Best course of action would be to check if the content you want is available on the channel four app. If it isn't, they only have limited broadcast rights.
