Re: RTE not Allowing the PLAY FROM START function ?
Are you on sky q, sky+ hd, sky glass, or sky stream?
When you try to pause live tv, does any message come up?
ROI sky Q Customer.
If you have questions about Sky, please post on the forums and do not send me private messages about them. I'm only a customer like you.

Please tell us if you've Sky Q or Sky Glass/Sky Stream, as both the Pause and Play/Watch from Start features behave in different manners.
The first thing to note is that, according to my own experience, I have never encountered the "Play from Start" feature on any RTÉ, Virgin Media channel or on TG4. Therefore, if it is the case where you were anticipating it, it may be because it is not available on these particular channels as opposed to something wrong with your equipment.
In the case where you have Sky Q:
"Watch from Start" is not available in all programmes and channels; it depends on whether the broadcaster has prepared a proper restart/catch-up programme. Therefore, you might find the feature in some channels and not in others.
Since you have rebooted the device already, also confirm whether your broadband is properly connected by checking under the Settings > Status tab.
Live Pause works differently on Sky Q since it utilises the hard drive inside the Q box. The Live Pause should generally be able to pause the live television for up to an hour. To see if Pause can stay paused on some channels, follow the steps below:
- Pausing and rewinding live on different channels including a Sky channel.
- Playing, pausing and rewinding any recorded shows.
- Testing if you can record any new shows.
If all of those things are having problems, then there might be something wrong with the Q box hard drive and not the channels themselves.
However, I would not suggest resetting the hard drive at this point because it clears all your recordings. Check that the Q box has the latest software update from Settings > System Info if there are any issues.
If you have Sky/Stream:
They are different because live TV, pause, and watch from start services are delivered via your broadband connection instead of being continuously recorded to the hard drive.
Live TV service can generally be paused for a short while after which it will continue to play automatically. The amount of time you can rewind is limited by the live buffer.
"Watch from Start" is again dependent on the particular channel and programme supporting the restart facility. As mentioned above, I've personally never seen it offered on RTÉ, Virgin Media channels or TG4, so its absence on those channels may be normal.
If Pause is releasing after only a few seconds or minutes, or Pause/Restart has suddenly stopped working across lots of channels, try switching the Glass TV/Stream puck off at the mains and back on, and check that the broadband connection is stable. If the problem is only affecting particular channels, it may instead be a broadcaster/Sky service issue.
