Hi, I'm currently using Sky Q and thinking about taking Sky Stream - I understand you can't record on Sky Stream in the way you can on Sky Q and instead have to add things to a playlist.
Does anyone know if all channels are available to do this with? i.e. does this include international channels and some of the less mainstream ones, or is it restricted to the usual BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc.
Thanks

Perhaps the first thing to be aware of is that many of those channels are not carried on Stream (or Glass) at all.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThe playlist feature may take a cloud recording of a show, where Sky legally have the rights to take a cloud recording of that show. This works well for things like sporting events, where Sky can take cloud recording. In the majority of cases, the playlist functionality is a link to the relevant catch-up TV services. So BBC shows for example, the playlist will link you to the show on IPlayer, the same for ITV and ITV X. Obviously some channels only have broadcast rights for a show and not on-demand/catch-up rights. In this situation the playlist would link you to the app where the programme is available. One such example at the top of my head. Accross the Channel 4 range of channels e.g C4, E4 etc, they broadcast a range of US shows e.g The Simpsons or Modern Family. In these situations C4 usually have an episode available for 30 days after its initial first broadcast on a channel, and then that episode is removed which means the only way to watch the show on-demand is via Disney + and having an active Disney + subscription.
If you are the type of person that has subscriptions to a number of streaming services like Disney and Paramount, then this works quite well, however if you don't you will find that a number of shows would only be available to watch for a limited time period on demand if you don't watch them live as they are broadcast on a channel.

I've had sky stream for over a year now. After having sky plus then a break. Sky Stream is the worst TV platform ever invented.
The lack of recording is a huge problem for me. The way you access programming is a let down. Fast forwarding and rewinding within a show, if you do it quickly, the whole thing freezes up. Even other apps via stream work fine.
All in all sky stream is hideous.
As soon as my contract is up, I'm going for Q.

@Capt555 Some have reported that Sky will let swap to Q penalty free😉

@Exiled-in-HH I def need to look into that. Any more info on how to achieve it?

It's been reported in other discussion on this community.... getting Q is something I would never want to do😉

Just ring Sky. Explain that Stream isn't working sufficiently well for your needs and that you want to switch to Sky Q. You'll need to have a dish installed (if you don't already have one) and start a new 18 month Sky Q contract.

Thanks everyone, it's my first time using the forum and have been impressed at how quickly responses came.
Channel list was really useful - thanks for sharing!
Interesting that overall sentiment for Stream doesn't seem too positive...

These forums are primarily for those that have problems, hence how it can feel like there's a distinct negativity around Stream. There are many, many people who love it and have little or no problems with the service. But you won't find many (non-sponsored) reviews of Sky Stream which are totally glowing. The concensus seems to be that it's expensive, the hardware is somewhat sluggish and there are still bugs in the software, but again, many people who've never had a faster streaming device, have plenty of money and don't mind the semi regular reboots are perfectly happy.
Sky Stream is functional. It's great for some people, and not for others. If it was amazing then there would be much more buzz around it, everyone would want it and it would probably be even more expensive. But not everyone has a perfect broadband network. Not everyone has a perfect streaming experience. The only way to really know if it works for you and your personal circumstances is to try it.

@Lad1 Visit the Sky Q discussion area to gauge how positive people are about UHD on minis😉

After one month of Sky Stream we are throwing the remote control at the wall every day. Play list is waste of time. Most TV companies do not support it. .All sky are doing is to provide a window to other links like BBC Iplayer, ITV x. Please dont try MY5. or you will lose your temper.
Good points. Well. Brilliant picture quality.
The sky puck has a mind of its own and often just changes channel at will . Quite entertaining actually. WiFi is quite good for phones and tablet. In fact its easier and quicker to download TV apps to your ipads etc and get a better service.
Thats it.
Netflix and Amazon Prime drop out after 30 minutes of veiwing time and you have start all over again. .
We are stuck with Sky Stream for the moment but will return to Virgin Media at the first opportunity.
