Not told it would not record

Just signed up for sky stream when they rang and offered what I thought was a good contract.  Set it up today but found we cannot record.  Was not told this by sky.  What use is stream.

Hi @Popom  When I moved to Glass/Stream in mid 2022 I thought I would miss the ability to record.  However, to my surprise I have not missed it in the slightest in fact I find streaming to be far more convenient and would not contemplate returning to sky Q. I will admit there is a bit of a learning curve and it takes a while to get used to the streaming platform.

Don't forget if you find Stream is not suitable for your needs you can cancel within 31 days with no cancellation fee.

Stream is great. Just add the programme to your playlist and all episodes are there to watch at your own leisure. Clue was in the name "stream". Give it a try and I'm sure you will like it

Re: Not told it would not record

Adding something to your planner will either trigger a cloud recording, launch the appropriate app or pull the video file directly from a server.

It only takes a short while to get used to how it works.

Personally we haven't missed not being able to "record" and we certainly don't miss a recording ending before the program has finished because the previous program over ran...

Re: Not told it would not record

Can you pause live TV with the streaming puck?  With the Sky+HD box (and its predecessors) we always recorded commercial TV channels so we could watch them later and fast-forward through the ads. I'm assuming that streaming has no ads.  If not, it's disaster for us!

Re: Not told it would not record

I did exactly the same!  I was lied to about my old recordings on my Sky+HD box too!  They told me that all my recordings would still be available and "transferred" !  As I'm keeping my old Sky box, I assume I can still get Freeview Channels through the sat dish, even if the Sky Card is cancelled.  I think I should still be able to playback any Freeview recordings too.

Re: Not told it would not record

@Graylione you're going to be disappointed again.

Streaming "recorded" content from commercial TV apps does have adverts.

You can pay Sky for ad skipping, this does not remove them but enables you to fast forward through them on most channels.

Live TV can be paused but the buffer memory isn't that big so you'll have to work out if it is enough to boil the kettle and make your tea or go for a comfort break.

If pausing UHD content the time before that buffer fills and the box reverts to playing live content can be short.

Re: Not told it would not record

Yes you can pause live TV. Regarding ads you will need to add the ad skipping to your package

You will be able to view the Free To Air channels but I don't believe you will have any access to your recordings.

Unfortunately that's not correct: while free to air channel recordings aren't encrypted on the hard drive, disk access itself is a subscription feature and will stop working after a switch to Q, Glass or Stream.

Re: Not told it would not record

Thanks for the info. This is what I apparently ordered .

I seem to have Ad skipping, but I have no idea why they put "Sky Kids" on!  I def don't need that for my 50+ years old boys!😄

"Here's what you ordered:

Sky TV

Sky Stream puck
Sky Ultimate TV - Sky Entertainment with Netflix
Ad skipping
Netflix Standard with Ads
Sky Cinema
Sky Kids"

Re: Not told it would not record

Honestly, playlists work great and you'll not miss a thing.

Select what you want adding to your playlist and press the + button and not only will you get the latest episode of your program you will also have access to all episodes.

Live sport events do tend to record on a cloud somewhere.

I think once you've got used to it you'll love it.

You can pause and rewind live TV, yes.

Re: Not told it would not record

@Graylione technically you weren't lied to regarding the recordings, if you add the programmes to your playlist all the recordings you had will be available.

Only if those recordings are still available On Demand. I have several recordings on my Sky+HD Box that wouldn't be.
