Thanks for all the replies will

keep an eye out for when and what channels it's happening on and if anyone presses the view now icon would be interesting to see what happens. I also have an LG tv so maybe it is a tv thing 🥴

I have been getting this the last few days or so. I also suspect it's an LG thing. Only been getting it since a new update to web is, and after I was forced to accept the new terms and conditions (which included one related to advertising which I did not want to accept, but if you don't accept them ALL you keep getting on-screen reminders to accept the Ts&C's, so either way you're getting annoying messages. Shame on LG if it is them!)

I have 2 LG TV's, both different models and have not seen a message like this pop up on either TV's

I have just done this (about an hour ago) and not seen the message appear since:

 

  • Access Settings: Press the Settings button on your LG remote control. 
     
  • Navigate to General: Select "All Settings" and then "General". 
     
  • Go to System: Select "System". 
     
  • Find Additional Settings: Select "Additional Settings". 
     
  • Select Home Settings: Select "Home Settings". 
     
  • Disable Screen Saver Promotion: Locate and disable the "Screen Saver Promotion" option. 
     
  • Disable Home Promotion: While you're in the Home Settings menu, you can also disable "Home Promotion" and "Content Recommendation" if you're seeing those ads.

Hopefully that's resolved it, but will post here to confirm either way.

So I just found that the exact setting you need to turn off in LG TV settings. In the following order go to...

 

- 1. General

- 2. System

- 3. Additional Settings 

- 4. Live Promotion 

 

The last option is the exact offender for the message appearing on the bottom of the screen. 

I pressed the scroll button when the message appeared. It brings up random articles of items to buy that by the looks of things, AI is scanning and showing ideas that it thinks you would like to buy. 

I was watching Casualty this evening when a young girl was wearing a multi coloured necklace/chain. When I pressed okay, it brought up multi coloured necklaces/chains that I could buy.  

It is clever for the right people but it's not for me. Sign of the times. It's only going to get worse now AI is taking over.

I think Loubear1 is correct... the setting I turned off as per my previous post didn't make a difference, but Loubear1 's suggestion seems more promising.

I also deleted the ShopTime app from my app list too.

Spoke with a John Lewis TV technician yesterday.

 

They have heard customers of LG TVs since November asking why they are suddenly seeing differing forms of ad bars and screensaver ads appearing in their TVs, when not seeing them before.

The mention was some recent LG TV firmware updates to older and Mir recent LG models has had these added and turned on.

 

They can be switched off by going into the LG TVs additional settings menu and turn off Screesaver ads, live plus and live promotion.

I can confirm that since turning off Live Promotion (as suggested by Loubear1) I have not had that message come up again, so happy days 🙂

Thanks for updating us on this. I've still not seen it but I suspect my LG is slightly too old and they've (fortunately) given up on trying to update my software!
