Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
@MrsRooney wrote:I may be becoming a little pessimistic, but I rather suspect that in Sky's eyes the issues we are experiencing with voice sync are quite well down their list of commercial concerns. Why? Because the vast majority of Sky Stream users will have simple setups where the Sky puck is connected to their tv, and that tv provides both picture and sound. And there does not seem to be any problem with such a straightforward setup.
Those of us who have decided to adopt separate sound systems, whether a soundbar or a full 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system have unwittingly introduced a complexity which Sky is clearly having difficulty with. And since I suspect we are in a minority compared to the numbers of 'straightforward' Sky users, I fear there is a limit in terms of the resources that Sky are willing to commit to finding a solution to our problem.
I think the best hope is that Sky will introduce a mk II version of the puck and take the opportunity to resolve all the known hardware and software problems. Whether we could then persuade them to swap our mk I pucks for the mk II pucks is of course another matter. Either way, whilst it would be nice to think a solution is on the way, I for one am resisting the temptation to hold my breath!
Precisely.
Sky Stream is a mass market product. The mass market don't care much about lip sync, soundbars or Atmos systems, all they really want are some moving pictures with sound which Sky Stream does provide.
For those of us in the minority who do care more about the quality of the pictures and sounds we receive, other options are available. It's very good of Sky to continue to improve the NOW streaming service which will give you most of their own content via an app on alternative hardware, now in UHD with Atmos (when available) via the Ultra Boost option.
I gave Stream a year before I gave up waiting for improvements which never came.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
We have just had to replace our Sony Bravia tv/sky q box/ Sonos beam sound bar (after a lightning strike!) so all equipment is brand spanking new and top of the range models.
we are having very bad lip sync issues on the sky F1 Chanel.. it's unwatchable.
tried changing to PCM and obviously the lip sync options in settings.. changed the tv settings and the lip sync on the Sonos beam. Absolutely nothing works to change the lip sync problem. All other normal and HD Chanels and apps are fine???
Are sky any nearer to offering a solution as it can't be our equipment or our end?

Re: QS025 Lip Sync Issues
Hi Daniel,
I signed up with Sky about 3 weeks ago and use a Sky puck on a Samsung Frame TV. The lip sinc on SKy, Netflix and Amazon Prime is dreadful - had I known this I wouldn't have subscribed.
Is there an update since your post on 18th July? Thanks!

Re: QS025 Lip Sync Issues
Also, watching a series on Sky Atlantic, the screen goes black for 10 to 15 seconds after each advertisement session. It really does ruin the viewing experience. I noticed however that lip sync wasn't a problem on this Sky channel.
Any updates on this and lip sincing would be much appreciated.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
So, my pick randomly turned off and back on today by itself.
After it finished updating I went to System Management and checked the build version. It's now QS030.528.00P.
On first impression, lip sync issues seem to have gone however, at first then picture was juddering. So I went into the settings menu and changed the picture resolution to 1080p and then back to 2160p and (touch wood) it now all seems fine. Problem channels with lip sync for me were BBC channels but now it all seems good so far. All apps work fine too.
I'll keep playing around with it and see how it goes. I use pass through for sound and this works fine with Sonos soundbar in full Dolby.
Good luck everyone.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
That's great I hope it keeps working for you 😊 if you don't mind me asking what do you mean by "pass through" for sound on your Sonos soundbar? Thanks

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
Pass Through is one of the sound options that you have on the Sky Puck. It basically means that the sound goes through to the sound bar in the original audio format. So if the programme or film was in Dolby 2.0 it would go through as that. If the programme or film was in Dolby 5.1 it would go through as that.
This issue has been a pain in the proverbial for well over a year. I was an early adopter of the puck as it came withe the sky glass TV. So I have the sky glass TV upstairs hardly used and the puck in the lounge. Puck setup is hdmi cable through to the TV LG G2. Sonos soundbar plugged into earc hdmi on the TV.
This means that I don't have to put up with PCM audio from the puck anymore and I can listen to audio as it should be.
I'll keep a check on it over the next few days. I wish there was a setting to stop auto updates on the puck.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
I've changed it to PCM Stereo rather than it being on auto and that has improved it slightly. Build version QS030.528.00P

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
So is it safe to say that there are still issues with the latest QS030.528.00P firmware?
sounds like it might be improved for some, but others still experiencing an issue. I've read similar on other forums as well.
Have quite a good offer to rejoin sky with stream, but this is putting me off.

Re: Lip Sync issues - Sky Stream
All I can say is that the latest firmware works well for me currently. Honestly, everything picture wise is in sync with the sound. All channels and apps. I really noticed the lip sync issues too. Gutted for the people it isn't working for.
All I can say is that the puck turned itself off and on for the update.
The sky logo was on screen for a lot longer than normal whilst it started back up.
When it did come back to the home screen, the geek in me told me to check it was on the latest firmware and it was. I then changed it to pass through in the sound section of settings. Then went through the known problem channels and they were in sync. However the picture was juddering. So I changed the picture to 1080p and clicked confirm. Everything was still in sync and no judder. I then changed the picture back to 2160p and everything was still in sync and no judder. It has been turned off and on at the plug, been through most apps (Netflix, Amazon, Discovery, YouTube etc).
Only thing I have noticed is that, when changing channels, there is sometimes a slight pause of about 2 seconds before the picture and sound appear. But I'll take that over the sync being out.
I'm not saying by doing the above will make it work for others. If it does then great. I doubt it will last forever as they constantly update it and break things by doing it.
As said before, I've had the issue for over a year and was close to cancelling but I'll ride this out now a little longer.
