Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

Watching the most recent two episodes of True Detective: Night Country via catch up (we have a Sky Puck), the ad insertion seems buggy. An ad will interrupt a scene mid-sentence with no bumpers either side, then about thirty seconds later at what would appear to be the intended segmentation point an ad bumper will play followed by some black frames and then return to the programme without any ads having played.

It's an HBO show which in its original form would be uncut so breaks have to be forced to some degree, but this doesn't seem like the intended behaviour, is it happening for anyone else?

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

Call back from Sky, they have found that it's a broadcast issue and are going to resolve it. No good for me, as I've finished the series, but hopefully it will solve it for other people and hopefully make sure it doesn't happen in other programmes.

That doesn't sound right at all and would infuriate me. Have you given your puck a reboot recently? If it's still doing it after that then it might be worth contacting viewer relations to get this looked into. You can email them on viewerR@sky.uk

Thanks for the contact address, I was having trouble finding one! Will try a reboot first and see how I go...

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

Same issue with all three episodes, though at least I didn't get an ad for the first two, just a cut to black. My box has been rebooted recently.  I've emailed the address above, thanks.

Clearly an issue with Sky AdSmart.

Might be worth emailing viewer relations and get them to investigate @AdeleHH

You can reach them at viewerR@sky.uk.

Edit: completely missed that @Jones_The_Cat already provided this info!

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

I'm having same issue. Watching True Detective on stream and mid scene getting random (long) adverts. Completely ruins the scene. Awful!

The viewer team named above say they couldn't replicate it 😣

Try unplugging your stream puck for a couple of minutes to reboot it and see if that helps.

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

Thanks, no change. I've spoken to the Tech Team who were passing it on to be investigated.  Luckily I'm getting either zero or one adverts and can skip unlike others.

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

This happens a lot with Sky on demand content.
I think Sky should unplug AdSmart and turn it back on when they've got it actually working correctly.  I assume the "smart" in its name is meant to be ironic?

Re: Incorrect ad insertion when watching catch up

Really? I've never had a problem until this show (well as long as I take no advert being delivered as a good thing 😃)

@AdeleHH  I have Add Skipping and I have watched up to episode 3 of True Detective (series 4) and have been getting no adverts at all.

Are you watching in HD or UHD?

@Jones_The_Cat  I am setup for UHD by default so assume the episodes I have watched are in UHD.

I think it's the HD versions which have ads inserted.
