HDR issue

So sky stream user .

HDR works on sky sports UHD channels fine.

HDR works on Amazon prime video

HDR doesn't work on apple TV app or discovery app "tnt sports"

If I switch to my BT/EE box tnt sports wool load up the HDR just fine, so I no it's not my projector.

Find it random that it'll work with Amazon prime but not apple TV .

Do you think we will get a stream box update in the future. Having HDR on UHD content makes a big difference imo.

Thanks and happy Christmas 🎄 🎁 ☃️

@Slayer2005

It sounds like it's to do with how your Stream puck is communicating with your projector and isn't detecting appropriate compatibility.

Are you using a high speed HDMI cable of less than 3 metres in length between the puck and projector? Perhaps try a certified HDMI 2.1 cable for maximum speed and bandwidth capability. They can be purchased cheaply on Amazon.

Sky Stream outputs the HLG format of HDR on Sky content such as the UHD HDR Sport channels. It should output HDR10 on third party apps such as Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Disney+ and also output Dolby Vision on these apps if it detects a compatible TV/projector.

Re: HDR issue

Hi

As I said I switch to the BT/ee box and no problem so the hdmi is fine. But to clarify.

Using the hdmi cable what came with the stream box to my avr.

It can't be the hdmi if a certain streaming service works and another doesn't and a different streaming box works. No handshake problems going on here.  🤝

Re: HDR issue

It could be possible that you have a faulty puck or HDMI cable but it's most likely a setup issue. I use all of the afformentioned apps on Sky Stream with no HDR issues.

Re: HDR issue

Well that is interesting then. I mean the settings in the stream box are fine.im.sure. as I said sky sports HDR fine and Amazon prime fine. Just not apple TV "haven't tested Disney as no subscription"

So you definitely get HDR on apple TV on your stream box?

If that is the case then I'll see if they will switch the stream box outon another note I spoke to a sky technician a while back regarding the tnt sports discovery app and he said it was a issue between tnt and there licence...not sure how true that is.

Re: HDR issue

@Slayer2005 yup. At first it kept falling back to SDR HD because AppleTV's default HDR format is Dolby Vision and our Samsung doesn't support that. Apple updated the Stream app and it started outputting UHD HDR10.

It's probably a buried setting on your TV causing the issue and modern TVs have lots of settings to play with 😆

Re: HDR issue

It's a projector, and I don't have DV on it just HDR

But I don't think it can be a setting because everything else in HDR works. Sky sports, and any movie I download with HDR the projector plays it just fine. Anything DV as you say will be reverted to HDR10. So apple TV and TNT sports are the only apps giving the issue. I'll have a play around with the settings though just to be sure.

Re: HDR issue

@Slayer2005 it sounds like a handshake issue with those two apps. Have you tried them via another device connected to the projector?

Re: HDR issue

So basically.

Projector mounted on the ceiling.

Main HDMI going from projector to the avr and then all devices connected to the back of the avr. I mean it can't be the HDMI cable because I'm using the cable what came with it. But I might just switch the cable out and try anyways. I might also try stream box direct to the projector first with the cable. That way if I do that and it still doesn't work then it has to be a dodgy box right?

I'm pretty tech savvy but this one has got my stumped 😂
