Fed up with Sky stream

I'm fed up with Sky stream. You cannot record anything to watch immediately as the playlist sometimes doesn't have the latest episode until the following day. On Sky Q you could record it and start watching it within a few minutes.
I pay to skip ads too and on ITV it just keeps freezing and very often will go back to the start of the programme! It just isn't fit for purpose.

If you don't like Sky Stream or how it works then you can still revert back to Sky Q. You need to call Sky to do so.

Re: Fed up with Sky stream

HI, yes itvx has issues, mine would jump about, get lost if one is trying to FF and then jump back to the beginning.

How sky route itvx through their servers, I haveno idea, could well be an issue with itv rather than sky.

my itvx has settled down and only the FF bar atthe bottom does not auto-disappear.

U-&alibi often freezes for just a second, before continuing, when using a stream ?(not live-playout) so something is buffering somewhere.

As for 'recording' stuff. I have found sky rather sneaky in that they live-playout some of their prime-time programmes in hte early hours preceding peak time.

For example, The latestest episode of The Rookie would be shown at 2am, when nobody is watching and then again later in the day at 8pm.

I have never found an issue with not being able to stream anything, but you are right, if itv for example are running something live-playout, on sky q you can watch from the beginning, but on the itvx platform you have to wait until itvx put the whole catch-up episode there.

I was hoping sky were moving towards making thier streaming platform, tv licence free, as nothing is actually recorded, it is all catch-up and on demand.

They even have a stream only news service and the sky news articles are available to stream,m so no need to watch live sky news.

However, it seems the new OS2 uses the word 'record' and users can 'record' all of the programmes they want to watch to 'the cloud.

Sky q is very good, but sky stream has many advantages, with all the streamers and plalyists all witin the one sky playlist.

I have not seen q for a while, so do not know if they have updated it with all the catch-up and streaming.

Ideally, we want a new sky q box, updated with all the stream features, but this will not happen. q is being phased out.

I don't work for sky, receive any gratuities or discounts. They do however pay me in badges 🐵

Typically that's because 02:00 GMT is prime-time in the USA, which is a far more significant market to content owners with a new episode for global release.

This is why, for example, series such as GoT would land on Sky Atlantic in the early hours of Monday morning: first showing here coincided with HBO transmission on a Sunday evening (21:00 Eastern Time) to the much bigger audience over there.

Re: Fed up with Sky stream

Hi, an intersting thought,

however I thought that programmes in the UK often premiere weeks later tha the USA screening.

The Rookie on ABC in the USA is

January 6, 2027 at 9pm.

As yet, no UK premiere date.

But as previously said, sadly sky are using the word 'record' in OS2 with users beaing able to 'record' programmes.

It is a shame they did not use a word like 'bookmark' instead.

However it looks like burpham maybe adding £11 to everyone's internet connection, [removed]

@billx

A levy on broadband is one possible BBC funding mechanism raised by a think-tank.

The desirability or otherwise of having a national broadcaster independent of direct taxation has been a live topic for a century.
