Was thinking of switching to ethernet cable for main TV as the broadband socket is close to the TV. But would that stop me watching on a laptop upstairs via wifi? (ie they are both using wifi at moment - is it poss to have one device on ethernet and the other(s) on wifi?)

You can have multiple devices using both WiFi and ethernet at the same time.
