Enhanced Sky Stream Customisation

I believe Sky Stream could be even better if customers had more personalisation options for both the hardware and software.

  1. Customisable Sky Stream Puck & Remote
    • Offer different colours, finishes, or limited-edition designs for the Stream Puck and remote.
    • Allow customers to choose a remote style that suits their home décor or personal taste.
  2. Customisable Sky Stream Interface (GUI)
    • Introduce themes and colour schemes that users can select to change the look and feel of the interface.
    • Add adjustable layouts or home screen arrangements so customers can prioritise the content they watch most.

Why this would help:

Giving customers the ability to personalise both the physical device and the on-screen experience would make Sky Stream feel more unique and engaging. This level of customisation creates a sense of ownership, increases customer satisfaction, and could encourage more people to adopt Sky Stream.

I’d also like to know what other Sky customers think about this idea  would customisation make Sky Stream better for you?

Do you work in marketing? This sounds very much like a pitch.

I very much doubt many of your points (or any for that matter) will come to fruition though. Sky Stream is a mass-market product, and is mass-manufactured in order to be available to as many people as possible. It would cost too much for Sky to deviate from the simple black box look of the puck in order to fit the design of customer's homes. It's fine to do a limited colour range for Glass as they make more money from selling the TVs. All Sky Stream pucks are loaned and owned by Sky. They don't care if one is green, black, pink or leopard print.

Giving the customer the option to customise the GUI is an excellent idea... but again, not something I think Sky will consider. It would require more programming of SkyOS and would put added pressure on what is already quite a technical server-based system. Adding too many options will just add extra latency. Plus, much of it runs on the server, not on the puck itself which has very limited RAM or storage so saving customised options would take some memory away from what is already a memory hungry device.

All nice ideas, but Sky Stream is designed for simplicity and to be controlled by Sky so the customer doesn't have to think, just watch TV. The numbers of customers who'd actually want to do some customisation don't amount to enough to warrant Sky taking it further at the moment, would be by take.

Re: Enhanced Sky Stream Customisation

I understand, I was just suggesting maybe it could be done on the sky glass tv and not the puck, I am thinking of getting a sky glass but unsure as I have a PlayStation and I don't know how well it would be to play games on it.

The Glass TV runs the same server-based SkyOS as Sky Stream so has the same limitations.

Very few TV operating systems allow much in the way of customisation. Keeping them locked down helps prevent firmware and software issues.

Glass doesn't do 120Hz.  For gaming, far better sets are available at similar (or even lower) pricing: Glass is primarily intended for convenience consumption of Sky content.

Glass remotes come in colours to match the television enclosure colours.  Stream pucks are black ; )

Sky has been burnt before by ending up with warehouses full of unsold 'custom' remotes for Sky+ and Sky Q.

Re: Enhanced Sky Stream Customisation

The Puck is part of a global product by Sky's parent company Comcast. By introducing customisation, you increase cost which will increase prices for customers.

Also, allowing users to customise the front end introduces extra development costs and risk of increased errors which again increases cost.

Re: Enhanced Sky Stream Customisation

I think before sky worry about décor etc, they fix actual usability.  Not usability by the semi computer literate people, but the elderly.  Generally the over 80s who aren't comfortable with smart phones.  The UI  is not very ergonomic,  takes too many clicks to get to live TV.  Watching some old people use it, they just want to jump into live TV, and then their happy entering the channel numbers to get where they want to be.  So before we start thinking about pretty, let's make it easier to use.

@Keiran_chippy Coloured Sky Glass and Stream remotes are available from the official Sky Amazon partner (Concino Ltd) at THIS link.

All Pucks come as standard in black with a black remote but there are some colour options for Glass TV.

It won't happen but if were were given any customisation options I would like to be able to edit the home page and get rid of the rails I don't want (almost all of them).
