Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

Sky have no appetite to resolve this, it's not an internet issue, I have my box connected directly to full fibre using Ethernet. It's a Hardware/software issue. It's been constant. Their answer dumb down your output signal.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

it is still a problem for me. Picture and audio drop outs at random intervals across all streaming services via Sky Stream . All my other internet devices work ok including Sky Glass. Why is it so difficult .

@Nigelb1972

If you want lossless Dolby Atmos you need to get an Apple TV 4K box.and a sub to Apple TV+ Dolby Atmos they encode their titles with is superb especially if you have an Atmos AV setup. The difference between lossy Atmos on Stream and Netflix is like night and day.

Apple use Dolby Mat 2.0 a lossless codec, worth reading up about for this who are interested.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

I've been reading the ongoing thread with interest since getting rid of Sky stream and Q after months of frustration with sound and picture drop out.

As we have decent internet performance I was able to subscribe to the Sky packages I wanted through Now TV which, is owned by Comcast, with Sky TV also in their stable. However, rather than relying on the LG TV native apps I invested in the Apple TV 4K box. The performance is fantastic, an upscaled picture and Dolby Atmos sound with no issues. Furthermore, Apple are likely to upgrade the box in 2025 with a new chip set which will provide even better performance and picture quality and sound.

Best decision all round!

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

Has there been any motion on this?

I'm using an LG OLED C65 series tv and an LG S75Q Sound bar.

Watching content via Sky Stream in UHD with Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos causes intermittent sound drop outs, and the Dolby Vision logo to reappear in the top right corner.

Only happens on Sky Stream and then presents a noticeable lag between video and audio. Issue cannot be reproduced on LG TV Apps like Netflix, Amazon or Apple TV. No issues with Xbox or PS5 when gaming with Atmos/Vision.

Audio is set to Passthrough, connection is eARC and have also tried HDMI IN with the same results.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

@rw2012 there is a solution that I've posted many times however people just want to ignore it or argue the toss because they're blindsided by Atmos being lossless and my solution being lossy... You ain't getting lossless Atmos on any streaming platform and I'm fed up of explaining why... 🤣

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

Adjusting the position of my Sky Stream (elevated and as far away from as many electronics [plugs and devices] as possible), getting a superior router and a WiFi extender solved my issue. I have next to no dropouts now.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

I just cancelled Sky Stream. There's way too many issues to justify paying for it.

Apple 4kTV is the way to go with Now TV and Netflix 👍

Agree with your comments aoutr Atmos.

However can't find your solution, can you repost for us?

Thanks

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

@gpb156 the solution is to use Sky's suggested audio output setting of DD+ as this contains all the relevant codecs. You just need a system that supports it but it's been around for years so most should.

My puck outputs DD+ and the TV is set to Pass-Through via eArc.

The only service this doesn't work with is Netflix as they insist on Pass-Through audio but they're worst for heavy audio and video compression anyway.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

This doent work for me. Its worse than Passthrough/Passthrough which seems to limit the dropouts more than any other setting so far.

It won't work for everyone, unfortunately they think it resolves the problem but it doesn't.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

@Nigelb1972 Absolutely correct re Atmos , Atmos is an object based codec with DD+ at it's core and it's lossy. Atmos with Dolby True HD at its core which is lossless and is available available on Blu Ray discs, and is superb.

Atmos MAT 2.0 is lossless audio and is available on the Apple TV 4K box. If you have Apple TV the audio quality when watching Apple TV films or series is on another level compared to any other streamers.

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

@Floydianslip agreed. UHD Blu-ray has far superior sound and picture quality to any streaming platform. Sony's High Bandwidth files will push it close but you need a stable 80mbps to stream

Re: Dolby Atmos audio drop out

@Castiel109 try changing your HDMI cables to 2.1 as they have a much higher bandwidth. This could also cause audio drops.
