Connecting stream via wifi.

As sky stream can be connected via wifi. What is feasibility of using mobile phone tethering as a source  if no broadband is available. For example to use aboard canal boat which does have power for the puck.

If you are trying to use the stream puck outside the registered address you would be in breach of the T&Cs. Sky have monitoring available where they can see if a stream puck is essentially being used as different geographical locations.

At the registered address, using a 4G/5G enabled device is certainly an option as a backup for a broadband outage, however it will likely consume the data rather quickly so probably isn't advisable for a long period.

As @MarkGoldsmith indicates, if the boat isn't the postal address where the service was ordered then that's a breach of the T&C's.

HD on Stream runs at a rate of several gigabytes per hour, so a generous data allowance would be required.

Would they be able to tell if I took it through my 5g ? If I connect at home on mobile and away - surely they wouldn't be able to geolocate me as they do on broadband  ?

As the terms and conditions prohibit this you shouldn't do it

The curiosity got me , so i googled the implications - they will charge you £26 every month - depending on how long you watch from outside your house.

I guess thats to stop me from posting a puck to someone else and then they get "free" sky.

Yeah that's essentially the reason. I believe the T&Cs also mentions they may terminate the subscription and account as well if they decide to.

Sky are subject to rightsholders contracts so have to be very active on this
