I am using Sky Stream in Ireland and it seems the playback/on demand feature for BBC is very limited. Many programs do not appear on demand after the programme has aired.
Match of the Day and Strickly Come Dancing are 2 examples I can think of. The latter used to be available last year, but this year it seems not.
Is someone going to tell me this is not a Sky issue and it's the BBC at fault? Not really much of an excuse when one can get a FTA box and have that content for free, while Sky Stream is a paid service..

It kinda does.
Sky customers in the UK get their BBC on-demand through the iPlayer app, and not the Sky interface. Just the same as you.
Limiting on-demand access through BBC iPlayer and not the Sky interface is a decision taken by the BBC. Sky can't do anything about that.

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
The BBC is a UK FTA service ... the full service including iPlayer requires payment of a UK TV licence😉

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
Last year 'strictly come dancing' was available the day after broadcast on sky stream in Ireland.
I'm wondering will it be the same this year?
nothing up at the moment in the playlist (Sunday 11am)

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
BBC iplayer is not even available in the list of apps - that is a decision by Sky surely? I would have expected that the BBC channels that are supported should have support at least,

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
What do you mean by that?
The iPlayer app is absolutely available on Sky Stream.

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
Glass and Stream have always had iPlayer.

Sky Glass
Sky Glass offers multiple ways across the Sky Glass ecosystem to access programmes in BBC iPlayer. You can also directly access BBC iPlayer either via the red button (on a BBC channel) and by selecting BBC iPlayer in the Apps section.

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
Except outside the UK, of course....
Glass/Stream subscribers in the Republic of Ireland will see some BBC channels in their EPG but don't have iPlayer access: that's a legacy of the history of cross-border broadcasting, and more to do with politics than technology.

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
The BBC would make the decision on which territories the app would be available, if you're talking about ROI.

Re: BBC programes not available on demand
Historically the reception of broadcast BBC in RoI has been accepted just because there's no way of stopping it (transmitted signal from masts or satellite not being great at recognising geographic borders) and also as a political thing which recognises the entwined heritage of the two nations. iPlayer can absolutely be geo-restricted, and is also something of a tricky issue within the wider UK Licence Fee context.
