BBC iPlayer Picture Quality

I have noticed that if I watch BBC1 live the picture quality in HD is fine but if I choose a program after it has been aired and watch it via iPlayer the picture quality is much poorer.  I am not talking about those in UHD  just the everyday HD programs.

I don't have this problem with other apps although I have done a App refresh.  I have checked my settings in iPlayer and have selected Best Quality, and I have turned Beta to on.

My tv is an LG OLED about 18 months old.   Picture quality is otherwise excellent.  Does anyone have any suggestions please?

BBC iPlayer app streams are more compressed than the live channel streams which come via a different route.

How does the iPlayer app output via the puck compare to the iPlayer app output via your LG OLED? Are they similar?

If your puck is set to output 2160P then try switching it to 1080i and see if the image quality improves when playing HD content on the puck's iPlayer app. Doing this will make your TV do the upscale rather than the puck. You'll obviously need to switch it back to 2160P for watching any UHD content.

This is one thing that annoys me about the move from Sky Q to stream, you never know how good the quality is going to be as your using external applications, where is with Q it was was always a standard decent quality. I think if this is the future sky need to work with these external apps (iplayer etc ) to be intergerated with stream and offer better performance.

Had the same problem, set puck to 1080p and picture far sharper on live tv and I player with no noticeable difference, anything on uhd change puck to 2160.
