Avoiding overlap with virgin

I'm thinking of moving to Sky from virgin and my contract expires on the 7th September. However installation dates for broadband are already 2nd September so I'd need to order in the next couple of days.

i therefore run the risk I think of basically paying double for August or I'll be without broadband for a month if I only order close to my Virgin expiry date.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Andy

Ultimately when switching between an altnet and an ISP on the OpenReach network that will be an issue.

Surely you are better off dual paying for a short period rather than potentially being without internet for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Mark..... that's what I thought. I was just trying to see if there was a way round it.

Re: Avoiding overlap with virgin

@Mitch54

When I transferred from Virgin last year I had been out of contract for a few years and had been on a rolling monthly contract (as you will be after 7th Sept). I wrote to VM giving 30 days’ notice and signed up with Sky in their shop the same day. As a result of the sign up VM knew I was leaving before they got the letter and sent a text the same day. I picked a date that gave a three week overlap in case there was a problem with Openreach but could have picked a later date.
During the overlap VM offered me an almost 50% price cut if I started a new contract.
One thing I didn't know was that Sky don't provide email.

VM won't be providing email much longer either. They stopped issuing new email accounts back in 2020, and existing ones are having problems.

Strangely mine are still working ten months after I left. I don't use them but still emails .
