If you are desperate to have ad-skipping then you can change from Sky Q to Sky Stream. You would swap your Q box for a Stream puck.
But make sure you understand that it is a very different type of system which doesn't record in the same sense as Sky Q. It also has fewer channels available so make sure you check the list of what is and isn't available. It also relies entirely on you providing and maintaining a fast enough broadband network to function. There is no engineer support for Sky stream.
Ad skipping on sky stream only works on some apps. You can fast forward the ads when watching on demand programmes via the ITVX, STV Player, Channel 4 and 5 apps. Sky's on demand programmes give you an on-screen button to skip the ads.
On Sky Q you can record any programme on the programme guide on any channel then simply fast forward through the ads at your leisure. It gives you much more control. Sky stream is much more controlled by the broadcasters, and by Sky so it's harder to get round ads.
