I’ve received email with link, taking me to sky store FAQs
https://www.skystore.com/n/hgst/help/faq/getting-started
How do I watch a Sky Store movie or TV show?
You can watch Sky Store movies and TV shows online at skystore.com or on your LG Smart TV, NOW TV box, Roku box, Android/iOS mobiles and tablets. If you have Sky TV, you can watch Sky Store on your compatible Sky box and Sky Glass.

Find out moreIf you rented the film on your Sky box then you can watch it via your Sky box but what the FAQ isn't very clear about is if you rented the film online then you can not watch it via your Sky box because unlike Buy and Keep films you can't send them to your Sky box.
If you have a LG TV you can watch it via the Sky Store app built into the TV or if you have Google Chromecast you can cast it to your TV to watch.

Thanks for that. Why on Earth would choose to prevent a customer from watching on tv - notwithstanding the link in the email I received, does say I can, as a sky customer, watch on tv via compatible box. Cheers

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThey are not preventing you from watching a rental via your box because as I said you can do this but only if you rent it via the box. It is probably a rights restrictions imposed on Sky by the studios that is stopping them from allowing us to watch online rentals via our boxes.

Still puzzled why I seem to be able to watch a rental if purchased via the box, but not if I'm redeeming a voucher which needs to be done online.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreThat is the way Sky have set the system up as vouchers can only be redeemed online which means the credit has to be spent online. Personally I have always used any credit I have against a Buy and Keep film that can then be sent to my Sky box.

Yes I have the same issue, credit to use on my sky store account but can't spend it because I obviously want to watch the rentals on my tv! Seems such an absurd rule - either let us send rentals to the sky box, or let us redeem sky store vouchers on the box!!

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWjy not use it against a Buy and Keep film instead because it isn't like you have credit that you are going to be unable to use ?

Has anyone ever asked sky why this absurd situation exists?? It surely can't be a rights issue, if you can watch on your TV anyway, and pay via your sky bill... I see no fathomable reason why you cannot link your sky store credit to your box... I know you can use the app, but the app is only available on LG smart TVs. Why????? It's also available I found today on Roku boxes as well, which does solve the issue of being able to watch rentals from vouchers on your TV... Casting is also available on certain Sony TV's... Unsure about firesticks and other streaming sticks. Also if it's a rights issue, then why can't sky make the app available on sky q boxes. If nobody's ever had an answer, then I will ask them directly. It just seems an unfathomable bizzare situation, and personally I feel it's about time sky either explained why, or sorted it out....

Thanks for comments. Please, SKY, sort out this 'absurd, bizarre' restriction. To take up a Valentine's Day deal with a free sky store rental - only to find it can't be watched on tv is utterly crackers.

I'll send sky an email tomorrow. We pay them more than enough money, likely to be going up as well. Were not asking alot, just to be able to use sky store credit, to rent films from sky, through their own box, to watch on our TVs, not a laptop or tablet etc.... I'm sure the Asda movie deal has disappointed a great many people with the restrictions, promise your kids a pizza and movie night, and have to huddle around a portable device to watch it😤

Thanks @mike+simmonds
Doubt it will get me very far, but I do feel Sky need to either explain or sort this out.

This is the reply I got from sky.
Hello Chris,
Thank you for contacting the Sky Store team in regards to online rentals.
Online rentals can only be viewed via the SkyStore player app as this was the original service provided by Sky Store.
The app is available to view on a TV via a NowTV stick or Roku.
We also support Chromecast.
The rental period for an online rental is different to that of one purchased through a TV.
Online the licence is 30 days and on a Sky box it is only 7 days.
That is why they cannot be transferred to a Sky box.
In regards to Smart TVs that is an issue between the manufacturers and contracts with Sky services and I am unable to answer that for you.
The app will not be available on Sky boxes but is integrated onto the new Sky Glass TV.
I hope this answers most of your queries today.
I have pushed back about not being able to use credit on the sky box. It does answer some of the questions, but if the app is available on sky glass then why not on q. Surely if we are streaming, it's no different from glass..... Maybe sky are trying to get us all on glass
