Sky Store App unavailable on Apple TV

Hi,

why is it that the Sky Store app is not available on Apple TV, despite Sky Go being added, and despite the Sky Store app being available on IOS devices.

is there a logical reason( or does anyone know if there is a date planned to add the App as I want to access my purchased content and it seems like a strange omission.

thanks.

You would be better off emailing and asking the apps team about this to see if they know of any plans to add it - apps@sky.uk is the address to use.

Only guessing @BCliff but I would think - Apple would not want to host a direct competitor for sales of movies.

You are right of course that IOS hosts Skystore but perhaps it is viewed differently with content to be shown on a TV screen.

just in case it helps - are you aware that most LG TVs have the Skystore app.

Re: Sky Store App unavailable on Apple TV

Apple also require all payments to be done through Apple Pay / App Store on iOS devices and they take a cut of the transaction

the iOS versions of the app do not allow for purchases - only the viewing / downloading of already purchased content

I imagine this provides little incentive to develop further on the platform as it doesn't generate any revenue

You can't @alessandro.munegh

The only TV with built in Skystore is an LG

You could use a Chromecast with your Samsung for most movies (other than some new premiere rentals)

You can use a Roku also although I've never tried that.

Pre-owned Now TV boxes and sticks are a cheap option BUT stay away from the original white boxes.

That's unlikely the case as Apple don't have an issue with Amazon Prime who are direct competitors for both movie and device sales, the reality is probably more that Sky's app developers focus on producing apps for their ROKU OS based NowTV devices that just happen to also be compatible with other Linux based systems like Android and LG's WebOS.

It is frustrating that watching movies bought as part of Sky's buy and keep service are so difficult to watch on either AppleTV or  Mac in my experience.

Despite MacOS being listed as compatible on the Sky store website FAQ's:

Whenever an attempt is made to watch a video the following pop up appears:

For info I am using an M4 Mac running MacOS Tahoe (26.1)

Given the increasing popularity of Macs and Apple devices it would make sense for Sky to sort this, especially as they no longer offer DVDs and BDs with the Buy and Keep items.

That is why I now prefer to buy movies from Apple, so Sky are at least losing out on that revenue.
