Sky Q boxes and mini boxes are loaned to you and must be returned at the end of a subscription. You can't buy them and any you see for sale are stolen property.

You need to ask Sky to switch you onto a Sky Essentials contract with multiscreen.
This allows you to retain the Q boxes and view/record free-to-air channels. You can never 'own' a Sky Q box legally,

If you hear from sky about keeping your sky q can you let me know how much there charging you if you don't mind

@Andyjayo4  unless there is a massive shift in policy from sky on the ownership of sky Q hardware the op will never hear from sky about purchasing hardware outright

Posts have reported Sky TV Essentials on a Q box costing between £5 and £15 a month.  As noted above, buying Q hardware isn't a thing: it's not permitted and the boxes have zero non-subscription functionality anyway.

I have just be advised i can purchase my sky Q box for £140 and mini box for £50. Also advised I can then get freeview channels via sky q box without subscription. This was via an agent on sky chat. So policy has maybe changed.

@Bud3  You have been badly advised nothing has changed

whilst you can keep the hardware whilst watching free channels there is a monthly cost of around £15-25 for the essentials package

@Bud3  I would take anything you hear from an agent with a very big pinch of salt

It seems the agent is 'misinformed'.  But I guess at some point they may want to unload thousands of boxes that will stop working anyway in the near future (no satellites).

@Bud3

The advisor is clearly misinformed: 'freeview' is Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV) broadcast from a mast and received through an aerial, which has no relevance to a Sky Q box.

The free-to-air satellite television service from Sky is TV Essentials, and has a monthly subscription cost (essentially a fee for continuing loan of the Q hardware and recording/playback facilities)

I feel I must ask - are you sure you were in a chat with SKY ?

Is it feasible  that it was a scam site ?

(SKY have very limited chat facilities)

As we don't have the earlier part of the chat it is not 100% clear what the costs were being offered.

Also  mini boxes don't work without a multirrom subscription so themselves are of no use once the subscription ceases

As  indicated by the  others even if it was a chat with SKY the information given is incorrect.
