New Sky Q box

I wish to upgrade to Sky Ultra HD, and now found out I will need a new Sky Q box, I know I will pay £99 for new box, as my previous box is out of date for UHD.

I was told by Sky that I would keep my old box, which is great, as will use in another room that cable already run from dish.

With the new Sky Box, will I get a new viewing card?  or will I need  a new one?

Hi @NickBoxall   I'm afraid you have told the wrong information. It is not possible to have two Main Sky Q boxes on the same network (same address). The DPD driver will only leave the new box if you give them the old one. Make sure that you include everything, cables remote etc. to swap. Remember to keep your viewing card for the new box.

You will not be able to use your current Sky Q main box, on arrival of your new Sky Q uhd box.

What you have been told or gathered there is incorrect.

You can only have one Sky Q main box, and up to four Sky Q minis.

When your new Sky Q Main  box arrives, you will need to it swap over with the DPD courier on the doorstep.

Make sure you keep your current Sky viewing card, do not hand that over to the courier as you will need that to pair with your new UHD box.

Hi @NickBoxall   I'm afraid the technology does not allow two Servers (Main Sky Q boxes) on the same network. Do you have enough feeds from the wideband LNB to support two boxes? The boxes only work if connected to a satellite. You would not be able to view recordings etc. on the disconnected box.

Re: New Sky Q box

We moved into a new house, that had two cables, so I would have thought the previous owners had two boxes at one point, I will double check this with sky, I did question earlier, as I know they are on loan, rather then owning the box outright, to be honest we only want a box for spare room, and thought this would be ideal, as we need new box for UHD

@NickBoxall

You will need a Multiscreen subscription and a mini box for the spare room. As advised it's one main box per address.

Hi @NickBoxall   That would have probably been two Sky+HD boxes. Sky Q installers typically simply cut the spare room cables close to the LNB on the dish and leave them in place.
