I have just been given a couple of sky q boxes, I'm currently using an old hd box.
As I understand it sky q is always "on loan" rather than owned yet I'm seeing them for sale everywhere! I have no issue swapping the lnb to a broadband one but my question is can I swap my subscription to Q since sky didn't supply the box?

@gordon-66 No you can't, what you have and see online is stolen property
boxes are registered to the account they were issued for any attempt to swap will be caught by sky and they will identify the boxes as stolen as they are not registered to you

I don't believe so, and it is "wideband".

No - all SKY Q boxes remain the property of SKY and should have been returned by those who have been using them as customers. I would suggest giving the SKY Q boxes back to those who gave you them so they can return them to SKY and get any non-return charges refunded
Note: Even when people are charged non-return fees SKY still own the boxes.
If you want to switch to SKY Q you can arrange this with SKY - often for free - in which case you may, also, wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q
BTW The LNBs used by SKY Q are known as Wideband (due to a wideband signal beeing sent down each of the 2 cables - one for each polarity)

Re: sky q subscription / card
Thanks that kind of what I expected, I'm not interested in doing a sky upgrade as there's no way I'm getting back into a contract with them.
With regards to the LNB comments, I did say in my question that I know it needs wideband and I can change that no problem myself.

Just remember that you are now in possession of stolen goods

Re: sky q subscription / card
Haha
If sky want them they're welcome to come and collect them after paying a finders and storage fee that it 🤣
I do think the various on line marketplace needs to get it's act together and stop these being offered for sale though, there must be an awful lot of very unhappy buyers !
