Had my sky q box installed yesterday and was given a shiny new remote. So while I've been watching TV and trying to get to grips with the new controls, I noticed there's no back up button - the button that let you go just one step back, not all the way back to the main screen. Is there a shortcut somewhere to do this - I'm getting quite cross about this!

As you are new to SKY Q may I suggest you explore the help articles & videos you will find on the box
Home - Scroll down to Help
Then select the 'Select to view all our help articles and videos
Then select Using SKY Q & each of the sections you think might be useful
(These include the Remote buttons\)
One thing to bear in mind is that SKY Q has not been developed from SKY HD but built from the ground up and not everything on SKY HD has been implemented (for example other than the red button virtually no use of te coloured buttons on the remote)

The dismiss button takes you back to the full screen picture. I want the button which only takes you back one step. If I use the dismiss button, I have to start all over again

hi @Ziggy655
There is only the dismiss button.
There is also a bug - it should take you back one step but sometimes it can take you back to live TV -it is not consistent

Sky Q, released in 2016, is not an (updated) version of the Sky+ platform which goes back to 2002, so I'm afraid if you were hoping for identical functionality then you are likely to be disappointed.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. It hasn't solved my problem and I now have a list of things that sky clearly thought weren't necessary anymore. For example, you want to look and see what's on TV on Friday? That's tough! You have to scroll through all of the tv between today and 5 days from now! Ridiculous - especially as the buttons used on my old remote (yes I know, move with the times, yada, yada, yada) - the yellow and blue - don't do anything!!!
Sorry, rant over!

pressing the dismiss button is the only option

No. You go into the epg and press the fast forward button once for every day you want to advance, and the rewind button to go back towards 'today'

Unfortunately correct.

No. You go into the epg and press the fast forward button once for every day you want to advance, and the rewind button to go back towards 'today'
Also, once you have advanced in time/days in the TV Guide pressing the pause/play button returns you to 'now'

BTW feel free to rant but I must warn you that the SKy Q interface is now extremely unlikely to change unless there is a specific feature SKY want to implement
I must mention that comparing SKY Q to SKY HD is only likely to lead to frustration.
Taken from some notes I made for people considering to switch:
SKY Q has quite a different interface to SKY +/HD and unfortunatley, some people cannot get on with it.
There are a few features not implemented on SKY Q - the regulars here will kill me for mentioning one of these - which is Reminders, others include Recording bookmarks & slow motion in recordings, mainly only the red button on the remote is used - I can't remember what the coloured buttons on SKY HD were but I know some people miss these 'shortcuts' - and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head)
You cannot set recordings manually or adjust the recording time on SKY Q - it records only what the TV Guide sets for the programme.
In addition to the above there is no Red Button Text Service.
I should also warn you that the Recordings 'Continue Section' is notorioulsy flakey and can point to epsiodes you have already watched and deleted or the next episodes before you have completed the previous ones etc - so we advise to use the 'Continue' Section with great care
Similar caustion should also be used with the buttons above recordings thumbnails in the 'Most Recent Section' - I advise people to use the buttons 'below' the thumbnails unless they are sure that the buttons above are pointing to the episode you think
We will try to assist you with any queries you may have - especially as not everything is intuitive
As mentioned do look at the help I mentioned earlier

Q was released in early 2016 and has now been superceded in the Sky/Comcast product line-up: it's likely to be removed from support completely before the end of this decade as the trio of satellites which Sky uses reach the end of their operational life. As such, there's very unlikely to be any change in functionality before then.
