Viewing card issue - keeps ‘dislodging’?

For several months we've had occasional issues with our viewing card where comnection is lost etc and it seems that the card has popped out of its slot - just by a mm or so but enough that it can't be read.

 

I 'fix' it just by taking the card out and then putting it back in. 

Not a big problem but it's happening more frequently now - perhaps once every few days.

 

Anyone had this before? Perhaps the slot inside has some accumulated dust?  Or the spring mechanism inside the slot has worn out (even though the first time I removed the card in about 6 years was when this issue started occurring)?

 

Any advice folks?

It sounds as though the mechanism which retains the card when inserted has developed a fault, probably because of old age. Unfortunately there's no simple solution as a replacement Sky+ box is no longer an option. I'm afraid it's a matter either of upgrading to Sky Q or Stream or putting up with the inconvenience of the Card popping out from time to time.

Kind of what I thought. Sometimes the smallest of things can disrupt great tech....

 

I haven't looked in to it but I'm guessing I would have to pay for another box - its actually a sSy Q that is dying - we have a Sky Q 2TB UHD Non-HDR plus 4 minis

I've moved your post to the Sky Q forum. I wouldn't expect there to be a charge for a similar, replacement Sky Q box. Most likely it will be a doorstep swap where Sky deliver a new box and take away the old one. Don't forget to remove your Viewing Card from the o.d box before the courier takes it away!

Hi @Calvados   Just to add, remember to swap the power lead as well. I would be surprised if there are many 32B0xx boxes about, and the 32B1xx box may be used on the swap, it has a different power supply and lead.
