Using Sky Go to record Sky Q

I am using Sky Go to record programs on sky Q.

It seems that I can carry on requesting 3, 4 or 5 programs all at once, but obviously they will not record. There is no error message shown on the app or on the TV. I have a screenshot available. I believe this is the reason why I seem to miss some recordings I think I recorded. Is that right?

@rond1 You are correct in your assumption. It's always been the case going back to the Sky+ App with Sky+HD boxes. The App is just sending the record instruction to the box, so the App has no knowledge of the clash. The box has no way of showing you that there is now a clash.

It's the same if you have recordings on Series Link. If you have manually set recordings for, say, Monday at 9pm, Series Link will happily add more but 1 or more would subsequently fail.

HI @rond1

most SKY Q boxes can record 5 programmes at once (or 6 if set to) although the non UHD 1TB can only record 3

It seems to me if you record through Sky Go on a mobile phone, you can record six, and even more, I expect, but didn't try

Are these programs you are trying to record at the same time or spread throughout the week ?

No. You are instructing the Q box - you are limited to the concurrency of the recordings and the hardware version.

Re: Using Sky Go to record Sky Q

Thanks for that.

It sounds like you are agreeing that it is possible to schedule say six recordings via the Sky Go app on an iPhone, but clearly only three would actually record?

I believe so if that's the limit of your box.

Max of three, if you have the old 1TB box, AT THE SAME TIME.

If the recordings don't overlap, this limit is irrelevant anyway.

I don't know if Sky Go would know you'd hit the limit or maybe as you're suggesting, it assumes all boxes can do 6.

Re: Using Sky Go to record Sky Q

Thanks for that.

The bottom line is I am losing  recordings and have a suspicion that if I record say  three programs via sky Q remote controller and then at a later date add say three more programs via Sky Go app on my phone, the sky Q schedule actually shows six programs, only three of which will be recorded if they are all scheduled at the same time. There is no warning message anywhere as far as I can make out.

If  I can work out how to add a screenshot on this forum I will add it!

Get a HDR box upgrade if you have UHD. Better picture and you'll get 6 parallel recordings.

Re: Using Sky Go to record Sky Q

I do not want six parallel recordings.

I would like to see a warning message somewhere that shows me when I have exceeded my current limit, which is three!

Why would being able to do 6 not be a better solution?  What's preferable about being told you can't do something you clearly have wanted to do?? New box loses old recordings of course, that's always a pain.

You'll probably have to call Sky to get it logged but who knows if they'll fix it.

Re: Using Sky Go to record Sky Q

No, it is not 'something I clearly want to do'. I can always reschedule. I just want be told when there is a clash  like I do when I try to record more than 3 programs via  Sky Q
