Hi,
I have sky HD and like many, I've been offered a free upgrade to SKY Q.
I understand the functions are different in that I won't be able to record or set reminders. I guess I will lose all of my recordings I have saved on my current box?
My remote control failed recently and I contacted them for a replacement. They gave me the hard sell re the upgrade but wanted to charge me an extra £10 a month although the upgrade is free. I'd get an extra 15 channels apparently which i dont need. They eventually agreed to send me a new remote.
My question is if I wait until the box eventually fails, will I then be charged to upgrade?
TIA

We can't tell you... It will depend on future offers.

You can record with Sky Q(its only with Sky stream and Sky Glass that you can't), in fact you can record more at the same time than you can with Sky HD but you are right that there is no reminder function.

SKy Q itself does not have any different channels other than a couple of UHD ones.
Any additional channels would be due to a change in packages.
A 'free' upgrade is likely to continue but can come with 'strings' - it can depend on when you call, who you get and your negotiating skills
I think you may, also, wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Thanks, that makes sense, a change of package wasn't mentioned. Would an upgrade mean a change in the package?
I have already read your notes and found them helpful.
I'll probably give them a ring at some point and go into it in a bit more detail.
I'd happily upgrade but don't want to increase my monthly subscription 😫

I don't think they will upgrade anyone without switching them to the current SKY Signature base package & adjust any other addons if required - they may also insist on Netflix being bundled (SKY Ultimate)
What is you current base package ?

Glad you found them helpful

I'm already on Sky signature.
I pay £28.50 discounted til May
Broadband essential plus boost £34.75 discounted til May and sky talk pay as you go £0
I pay for netflix separately

The key is to make that the starting point of the negotiation and stick to it. It's in their interest to keep you as a customer.
