Upgrade cost to sky q
My mum has taken over my dad's sky account after he passed away suddenly, she took the account in her name now with plus box but now wants to upgrade to sky q, she's been told to do that she has to pay 99 pound, I thought upgrading to sky q from sky + box was free but a small installation fee, any idea if that is correct, my dad used to sort all that out and she's a bit lost now.

hi @Evst
I think £99 is the standard installation charge but often there are deals but not always and it depends on what is being offered / asked for
I know some people are offered a free upgrade but only if the take the basic SKY Q non UHD box and charged a similar fee if they insist on a UHD box
As I say it can depend on offers and even down to who you speak to
BTW just in case your Mother is unaware of some aspects of the switch, I will link to some notes I have made for people considering upgrading:

Sorry that some items in those notes are rather techie but there are also some key points regarding the User Interface & missing features & lack of reverting amongst others so if you could perhaps filter out the key points you think relevant for your mum & let her know if you think relevant for her.
P.S. Any other questions, feel free to ask

Re: Upgrade cost to sky q
Does it make a difference that she doesn't have a dish on the house but is connected to a central hub, she's in a bungalow from the local authority

In some ways yes.
To upgrade the engineers may need access to the Communal system (& will need permission from the Local Authority to do so).
Some systems are 'Q ready' but others need the addition of an 'adapter' (which might be part of the reason that the charge is being set)

Re: Upgrade cost to sky q
@Evst The question is, why does she want to change to Sky Q? What is she hoping it will give her that Sky+HD doesn't?
Sky Q positives are if you have/want a UHD TV, you want to incorporate your Netflix or Disney+ accounts, you want to record more than two channels at the same time.

Re: Upgrade cost to sky q
I think it will be easier for her to use than the old style box and layout.

Re: Upgrade cost to sky q
@Evst Hmmm. I think that even the most ardent supporters of Sky Q would agree that something it's not is 'simpler' to use, particularly to those coming from a long time with Sky+.
Also, bear in mind that once she's switched, she wouldn't be allowed to switch back if she didn't like it.

Re: Upgrade cost to sky q
Moving from Sky+ to Sky Q.
I added Tennis TV. Lots of "connect to the webfor extra courts."
Therefore I go online and book an engineer to bring a Sky Q box so that I can stick in my RJ45 connection.
The monthly bill jumps up by £10 A COMPLETE RIPOFF.
I don't need the engineer to change my very modern dish.
I don't need the engineer to "enliven" more than 1 room.
I have my new viewing card.
WHY AM I PAYING ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY QUID!!!!!
I want a reduction in that rip off cost. How to I get it. I seem to be barred from ringing customer service?

Sky Q requires a different LNB on the dish to the one typically used by Sky+

Probably an admin charge. Admin charges (a one off charge) are usually added to discounted deals (new or on renewal), and it’s normally £10 per discount. Check your future bills and see if the charges have been credited back. Otherwise, if you negotiated the deal on the phone and these admin charge(s) weren’t mentioned contact Sky again. They should be able to listen back on your original call and if they weren’t mentioned they will hopefully cancel them.

Changing from Sky+ to Sky Q requires an engineer to change to LNB attached to your dish.

Why? What's happening when you try to call? You would only be unable to call Sky if your services were restricted due to a missed payment.

There's no requirement to have Multiscreen on the subscription (and consequently receive a Q Mini box) but Sky may choose to charge more for the initial setup if this is the case.
