Upgrade angst

Hi guys, I'm really nervous at the prospect of having to upgrade to Sky Q. It makes me feel sick, but I know it has to be done. My question is this:

Will my Sky+ HD box mine to keep after the upgrade?

I spoke to a guy at Sky in the Summer who told me that I would  be able to keep the box, but was just told that I  wouldn't. Which is it?...

Also, (post upgrade,) will I definitely still be able to watch stuff saved on the old box?

Thanks for your help.

@JustcallmeGina

No, without a Sky+ subscription you won't be able to view any recordings on your old box.

I will cc in one of the Superusers who has compiled a help guide for those thinking of transitioning from Plus to Q which may provide something you hadn't considered

hi @JustcallmeGina

Yes the SKY HD box is yours but you cannot watch any saved recordings once your account is switched

In theory the old box can be used to watch the Free To Air channels but this requires a special LNB (the electronic bit on the dish) that SKY no longer supply

You may, also, wish to read some notes I have made for people considering switching from SKY +/HD to SKY Q

SKY +/HD to SKY Q

Any further questions, do not hesitate to ask

Edit - Thanks @Daniel0210  was typing when you replied 🙂

It doesn't 'have to be done' (at least not at the moment) : while Sky ultimately gets to choose, Sky+ HD is likely to remain functioning alongside Sky Q until both cease with the end of satellite television broadcasting to the UK around the turn of the decade.

After a switch the old hardware is yours to keep but becomes essentially inoperative.
