Unable to use Sky Q box via WiFi
Hi, we have used Sky Q for a long time via an Ethernet cable, without issue.
we have now moved the router (NOT sky broadband, another provider) to another room, so will need to now use WiFi instead of wired.
I reset the network on the Sky Q box and selected WiFi (other provider). It successfully finds the network name and will connect to it. The initial connection did take longer than I would expect though.
now in settings it shows tick marks on everything for connectivity but trying to go to any section that requires a connection, such as Apps gives the "it appears you do not have a connection" screen.
returning to settings it still has the ticks and hitting reset causes it to check the connection and even says all looks good, but won't work?
I initially thought it was the distance causing it (Q mini box has similar problems). So I temporarily moved the router to its old position and was pretty surprised to see it's still doing the same thing on WiFi (reminder it used to previously be wired), it says it's connected but then says it's not connected? So I think we can rule out signal strength.
I am at a bit of a loss how to resolve this, running a permanent cable is not really an option, WiFi should be able to work, at least when the router is right next to it.
I did try power cycling everything to no luck.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Unable to use Sky Q box via WiFi
How does that rule out signal strength since you were using ethernet before?
This is pretty typical Sky Q wifi behaviour though. I would put a couple of powerline adapters in and use ethernet over those. The mini will have to connect direct to the Q over 5GHz (you can disable 2.4 when using ethernet) which doesn't get through walls very well so means you'll likely be better off with a powerline there too.

Re: Unable to use Sky Q box via WiFi
Hi Chodley,
Thanks for the reply. I temporarily moved our router to right next to the sky Q box and the behaviour remained the same which is why I ruled out the signal strength being the problem - at least while the router is right next to it, as would expect WiFi to work while it's super close.
powerline adapters are an option though, thanks for that suggestion.
out of curiosity, do you think a hard reset of the box would have any positive impact?

Re: Unable to use Sky Q box via WiFi
It's always worth a try if you don't mind losing recordings. If you meant factory reset?

Re: Unable to use Sky Q box via WiFi
Hi again,
Potentially going to look into factory reset, once a few recordings have been watched 🙂
although just wanted to raise a pretty interesting discovery, still unable to browse any section of the home menu that requires a connection, but by going to a channel it will prompt "watch from the beginning" if a film or something has already started, clicking yes actually opens the app and streams fine - real odd.
