UHD or UHD HDR

I recently bought a new TV which has UHD and HDR. Lucky me. I noticed that I can download some movies in UHD and also noticed that under "all formats" I get the option to download in UHD and HDR. Which is fine for me, but my wife will just download whatever version she is initially presented with.

I have now found a setting where I can set my default preference for downloads to SD/HD/UHD - how can I set it to download UHD HDR when available?

Re: UHD or UHD HDR

I've found that as long as UHD is set as the preferred download format, and the picture output is set to 2160p with 10 Bit, it will download UHD HDR by default whenever it is available. If the picture is set to 8 Bit it will download UHD without HDR.

hi @sylsylsyl

There is no separate setting for HDR just the one for UHD

If your TV is set up correctly and SKY Q box recognises it then you should - as you have done find it allows HDR.

Generally it will default to the HDR version when available and you should note that not all films or shows available in UHD have HDR versions.

I could be wrong with this but I think sometimes the thumbnail 'tiles' that are presented on some screens may only link to UHD rather than a version with all formats so sometimes it is double checking via voice search (or manual seach via the remote)

As I say most of the time it should pick up the HDR versions but other than checking for all versions there is no way to force it

BTW not that often but sometimes with new releases UHD non HDR versions are ready before the HDR versions become available,  so with these it is a matter of waiting - although as I mentioned not everything in UHD gets an HDR version
