Turn off PIN protected shows

When SKY Atlantic & other channels show certain material before the relevant 'watershed' it will always be present & you cannot turn it off

https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Sky-TV/Is-there-any-way-I-can-turn-this-damn-parental-control-off/ba-p/...

Do check that all the relevant options in Parental Controls are appropriately set but as I say you may need it for some

Our advice is to set the PIN to something like 1111 to help enter it when needed

The stange thing is yes on Sky you must have a pin to view adult material before watershed however I have now tv for sky cinema showing the same live films  channels as Sky Q and stream and I can view all without any pin what so ever.  I just tried it I am watching trading places which certificate 15 and it came on no pin required. Ovaasly  ofcom rules do not apply to now tv

Just looked in to the mater futher in now tv you have different profiles  for different members of the house hold  and part of the profile is the person adult or child I asume if  they are login to a child profile it dose not allow adult content. The adult profiles  can watch any thing no pin required. However there's facility to lock  adult profiles  to require a pin to get in using that profile but it set by the user and can be turned off as my case as we have no children in the household. Maybe Sky should adopt  that system to there Sky services therefore avoiding the incovenene having to put pin every time when there is no children in the household

The wording of the Ofcom interpretation of the Broadcasting Code doesn't appear to contain any such provision.

Realistically Sky is always going to be super cautious about MDP on its television platforms for the reasons I mentioned above.

So that defeats the object, so makes it  absurd. An adult household shouldn't be treated as fools. Give us a switch,

Ultimately that's a political decision, so write to your MP.  Ofcom has no power to relax Mandatory Daytime Protection (clue is in the name) : the change which permitted more channels to carry post watershed content was a widening of the PIN mechanism.

Re: Turn off pin protected programms

This isnt even just pre 9pm (watershed) it happens when i watch anything on sky - specifically true blood on sky box sets. An 18 rated proframme, every time a new episode comes on it popups up wanting the pin. This is happening 11pm onwards. I like to fall asleep watching tv and its really frustrating having to put the pin in everytime, in the early hours of the morning. Like with other streaming channels we should be able to create adult only profiles that dont need anything like a pin every single programme you watch in a 5 series boxset. We have no kids!!!!!!

Sky is regulated as a broadcaster, not a streamer.

The Broadcasting Code doesn't contain exemptions for child-free households.

It's probably worth remembering that the Code has a historical legacy going back decades and pre-dates internet speeds fast enough for streaming.  The kind of television content routinely carried now simply didn't exist on terrestrial channels back then: it was HBO that broke away because cable distribution gave them the freedom to do so.

18 rated programmes are a special case when it comes to the Ofcom regulations and require a PIN even after the watershed.
