Re: This programme is no longer available

I'm having the same problem. I'm a computer technician, and after two months of trying, I can say this: the problem occurs with two Google TVs, a Saba and a Thomson. I solved the problem by turning off the decoder with its remote and turning it back on after turning on the TV. It's probably an HDMI issue.

I have an update. Just had engineers around and showed them the exact issue. They spoke directly to one of their technical experts, and this is a recognised incident- they showed me a report describing exactly what we are complaining about. The issue is in the Q350 software update on the Sky Q box, and Sony TVs (mine's a Bravia) latest update. Apparently, Sky are working on it and there is a fix due in the next update Q360, which I'm told is being rolled out in the next few weeks. Crossing my fingers and hoping this is finally a solution.

Mine is a Sony Bravia too .. however, I'm sure I've seen people here with different TVs.  Perhaps it's more the base software of the TV - like Android or something, that multiple TV's use?

Until I read this thread, honestly I was just assuming it was me being daft or my TV freaking out - didn't realise that a lot of it was connected.  I was starting to think we'd got a duff TV.

I've not had this exact problem as mine is the one where it boots to a black screen (happily, only 3 and bit times so far). This does appear to be a HDMI handshake issue although mine is a Samsung TV so it's certainly not a Sky/Sony issue only.

Re: This programme is no longer available

I also thought it was a problem with my TV (bought three months ago), but by chance I realized I'm having the same problem with another Thomson TV, which is also Google TV, like your Bravia. So it's definitely a Sky problem with Google TV. We're waiting for a firmware update. In the meantime, I solved it this way.

Re: This programme is no longer available

Another problem that we're getting occasionally (unfortunately virtually every time we have issues, it's when my husband is using it - so some of it I'm chalking up to his allergy to technology, other times I've been chalking up to technology's allergy to him 😛 - although he tend to watch the TV more often than me, so it could be that too!) .. most especially when we've finished watching something on one of the apps - Prime, Netflix, etc, come back to the main "home" Sky screen (ie the menu area with the picture in the small box at top left), but all it shows is a black screen with just that little box pinging in different locations on the screen.  Is that likely to be connected to the same problem?

Re: This programme is no longer available

It doesn't seem like the same problem, it always happens to me when I turn on the TV

Oh yes agreed, of course. The HDMI specs exist (at a great cost to a closed club of people paying the HDMI forum's fees) for a reason, and the TV manufacturers spend millions testing and complying with them. Any suggestion that the TV end - which hasn't changed - is in any way at fault should raise eyebrows very high 🙂

Re: This programme is no longer available

I have the same problem- and this has continued despite getting a new Sky Q box as a replacement- been going on for weeks / months. I also have Sony Bravia TV. Please can we have an official Sky response with an update of when this will be fixed ?

Re: This programme is no longer available

I've just experienced the same problem, on a Sky Q box which was installed only just over a week ago. I'd been warned about occasional odd bugs but wasn't expecting anything quite so major. Fortunately, the time-honoured remedy of powering down the box, waiting, then powering it up again worked - but should I expect it to happen again, some time?

Along with all the other quirks and deficiences of the Q box, this simply reinforced my regret at "upgrading" from Sky Plus HD.

Re: This programme is no longer available

I fear you will experience the same issues as me. I had the problem, was supplied with anew box and the problems continued but with a few extras. Its simply apalling service. I am having to reboot once or twice a day. Terrible

Noahboy, sorry to hear that. Obviously, I hope you're wrong about my box, but only time will tell...

Sony Bravia here also. I have been loading with the Sky Executive team and they are fully aware of the issue and working on it. I'll get weekly updates so will let you know as soon as I know any more

Re: This programme is no longer available

Clearly all depends upon the exact configuration of your individual systems, whether or not you use ARC and what content you watch but in general, provided you follow my solution I published earlier, (put Q box to standby before turning off TV/ Audio, then when restarting power up Q box, wait 2-3 seconds then power up TV/Audio,) you should resolve most of issues. The wait is important! It may not work for you, but tinker and you'll find a work-around. Its an HDMI Handshake issue (Google that phrase and there are plenty of YouTube videos explaining why this may be a problem and why it occurs.) Even prior to the V350 issue and in my own case the visual signal was never compromised though occasionally my audio system to TV settings occasionally fluctuated (optical vs HDMI) and there was no clear pattern why? In that case it was easily resolved by manually selecting the audio output/input. There are dozens of variables at play. Sadly, the greater the requirement for security of connectivity and streaming of content , the harder it becomes to code for all possible permutations.  The only thing about 'universal standards' is invariably they aren't 'universal'.

Re: This programme is no longer available

I've only experienced this particular problem once, but since replacing my Sky Plus box with the Q I've noticed that when changing to other sources through my Denon receiver and then back to Sky, it takes far longer than before to bring up a picture: presumably this is another slow handshake effect.  Together with all the other drawbacks of the Q unit, it's absolutely infuriating. I curse the day I decided to "upgrade".
