Succession in UHD HDR

Planning ahead to this time next week,

Will Succession be available on Sky Q in UHD or UHD HDR?

Particuarly without Advertising ruining the episode and therefore the whole experience.

or do I need to visit my friend on Monday after work to watch it ad free in the best quality available?

Re: Succession in UHD HDR

I’m guessing not a lot of Succession fans here

or not a lot of UHD fans here

or a load of people that don't care about Advertising interrupting their viewing.

i thought it was a massive show.
4th & final season on way Monday morning/evening

No season of Succession has never been available in UHD HDR, it's always been HD-only, even on HBO Max where it originates.

There's been nothing to suggest that the fourth and final season will be any different.

I'm going to the UK press launch tomorrow night to see the first episode - I'll see if I can find out if anything's changed.

And as it's not available on 4K Blu-ray, presumably it wasn't captured in that format either.

There's no absolute requirement for any content to be made for UHD, and a production company could take a positive creative decision not to do this, particularly so as to avoid the extra logistics in the data acquisition (because it isn't 'filming') process.

It's actually still shot on 35mm film to give it the 'look' that it has.

I don't know what resolution they telecine at but there's every chance they might make a 4K master (to possibly sell a complete 4K Blu-Ray box set at a later date) or they may keep it all at 1080P for simplicity's sake (and to save on post production costs.)

Succession is shot on film, marked with a unique softness and texture that's a departure from today's digital norm. The Arricam LT, a handheld film camera, is deployed with Leica Summilux primes and Angenieux Optimo zooms.

Outstanding: I'm surprised they can source filmstock and a developers lab.

Re: Succession in UHD HDR

As is typical at these type of events, nobody had a clue about UHD or HDR at the screening last night and I couldn't get near the booth to ask the projectionist, so it's probably safe to assume it's still going to be HD.

The first episode did look fantastic though - if it was just HD then it was pin sharp with tons of detail in the brightly lit scenes. It's a cracking opener to the season, the cast are all sublime. There's a scene with Tom and Shiv towards the end which is just phenomenal. Give them all the Emmy's now.

On a side note, interestingly, they appeared to show the native HBO 24fps version at the screening, not the 25fps version used by Sky/NOW. The opening theme music didn't sound sped up like it does on Sky. Also, the audio in the screening room/lecture theatre(!) we were in was pretty poor - no 5.1 for starters.

No ad free nor uhd version means unfortunately I can't watch this via Sky.

Re: Succession in UHD HDR

Watched it Monday night

ad free at a friends.
great episode

no interruptions no Volvo no nothing

excellent.

Sky really needs an ad free service

would be worth paying for

it's only films and UHD content that are watchable via Comcast/Sky.

I find it impossible to watch via Sky too.

Thankfully I subscribe to HBO Max so can view it ad-free, less compressed and at the correct speed.

There is no UHD/HDR version but the HD version on HBO Max is noticeably sharper and has better contrast. The worst thing about the Sky version is how high-pitched everyone's voice sounds due to being sped up from 24 to 25fps.

Re: Succession in UHD HDR

I'm not sure but advertising free is better and more enjoyable.

Sky don't want you to enjoy their content

I agree. Which is why I don't watch it on Sky.

Re: Succession in UHD HDR

Probably watch similar to my mate.

it's worth the travel to watch ad free.

it is a shame that Comcast Sky refuse to offer an advert free consumer product or service in the UK.

how about letting people pay to delete/hide the ads in on demand and catchup instead of skip the adds

I only ever really encounter advertising when I watch live sports which is ok
