Sluggish minibox

Changing channels via the mini box is not instant. On occasions the screen has gone blank, a message indicating a technical fault has appeared then disappeared as the selected channel appears. More usually there is a few second delay. I have had thi mini box for some time - could it need replacing?

Switching channels is never 'instant' but should take no more than a couple of seconds.

(The signal is cached on the main Q box first and then send wirelessly to the mini)

If there is a 'fault' it could even be with the main Q box - not unusual for hard drive issues to impact the mini.  Or a weak internal network.

You'll need to call Sky to see what they advise though.

Re: Sluggish minibox

Thanks for that!
In relation to your last point I cannot find a number that connects me to an actual person with whom I can discuss this! Information I've been given takes me on a loop that doesn't help. Are you aware of a number I can ring? When installed a few years ago the put in a booster to the room in which the box lives. To date I've had absolutely no issues...

Call the number on the help page - it seems saying nothing is the best way to talk to someone...

Hi @Yelnats1

On Sky Broadband you can use the WiFi booster to connect to your router or your main Q box.  That's provided it is a Sky Q WiFi booster.

If you main Q box is successfully connected to your Sky router then you can use the Q booster located between your main Q box and the mini.

Assuming the main Q box is connected correctly you need to set up the Q booster as follows.

Position the booster approx midway between the main Q box and the mini.

  1. Hold the WPS button on your booster for 3 seconds until it flashes amber. Then hold the WPS button on the front of your main Q box for 3 seconds until it flashes amber - You'll need to do it within 2 minutes.
  2. After a few minutes, the connected light on the booster should  turn green. You're all set up.

Tip: Need to move your booster after you've connected, don't worry it will automatically reconnect when its moved as long as its within range of your main Q box.

Then carry out a Network Reset on the mini.

Network Reset found in mini Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Follow instructions to WPS with Q device,
You will be asked to press the WPS button on the Q booster box (not the mini as the Network reset will start the mini WPS automatically).
