SkyQ optical audio output

I am struggling to connect my SkQ box to my hi-fi system using a digital to analog converter. I have checked the optical cable and see a steady red light. Should the light be steady or should it flicker when transmitting audio? I suspect the converter is faulty but I am trying the eliminate sky box/cable/converter fault. Any help would be most helpful. This is my first post.

hi @Bob281042

Clearly one should never look directly at it - looking sideways on to my computer output optical port as I write this it appears fairly constant (my SKY Q box is out of sight) - so I suspect it is OK.

One thought - what age is your TV - does that have optical out as many have done for a while - if so could you try that or any other equipement that might have an optical out

P.S. Welcome to the community

A further thought - double check the setting in

Home - Settings - Setup - Audio Visual
Digital audio output Optical

and check that it is set to Normal as your converter probably can't process Dolby Digital

Re: SkyQ optical audio output

Thank you for your quick reply.  My tv does not have an optical output and I don' have any other devices that have an optical output either. From what you suggest I think I can eliminate the SkyQ box. Many thanks.

It's 192KHz DAC converter, Digital SPDIF Toslink to Analog Stereo purchased from Amazon

Hmm. Think the normal stereo output from the Q is 48 or 96. Can it handle 24bit wide audio?

Re: SkyQ optical audio output

Don't know, the information on the converter is very scant apart from a diagram showing connections.

Re: SkyQ optical audio output

Silly question, but I've done it myself, you have removed the little silicone rubber covers from the ends of the optical cable?

Re: SkyQ optical audio output

Thanks for the suggestion but yes I did remove the protective covers from the cable.
