SkyQ box upgrade?

I have had my SkyQ box for around 6 years now

The model no. is 32B107. (I think it's 2Tb)

1. I assume there is a much later model, and if so I was wondering what is the latest hardware version?

2. What are the main enhancments to the latest over the version I have?

3. Would an upgrade be chargeable, and if so, what is the cost?

4. Presumably I would lose all recordings if I was to have a new box. Would any Sky Store purchases also be lost?

I also have 2 mini SkyQ boxes for multi-room (again, 6 years old), but I'm only intetrested in upgrading the new box (unless doing so would not be compatible with the mini-boxes)

Thanks

Paul

hi @hawkerpaul

There is a slightly later box (32B2xxxx) available in 1Tb & 2TB  - the 1TB now being the standard but the differences are not massive

Yours is known on here as a V2 box the later one a V3 but SKY don't recognise them by these.

Both V2 & V3 are UHD / HDR capable so as far as SKY is concerned you could get given either as a replacement . - SKYs systems don't generally differentiate between the 2

THe V3 has a UHD version of Iplayer which the V2 doesn't.

I think the V3 has a faster ethernet port but the V2 is fast enough to stream UHD/HDR content

I believe the V3 is slightly  faster in operation

The V2 has a separate power supply (whiich may actually be beneficial as it keeps the box itself cooler) whereas the V3 has the power supply back incorprated

I think there are some cases where a V3 will resolve some dropouts/connectivity issues with some TVs that V2s may get

There is no formal upgrade from a V2 to a V3 as mentioned they are both HDR capable & SKY will generally only switch when customers raise specific issues they are experiencing

Any switch of a main box results in loss of recordings (although purchased content can be downloaded onto the replacement & other content may be availble on demand etc.)

BTW there have not been any different versions of minis (although I guess some later versions may have had very minor revisions)

@hawkerpaul

That is indeed a 2TB box. I got my v1 Sky Q box in November 2019 so not quite 5 years old yet.

Re: SkyQ box upgrade?

Thank you both, and thank you  @nigea99 for your extremely detailed and helpful answer.

I'm not getting too many problems really, apart from the occasional internet drop (even though I've set up on a wired connection) and occasionally when I turn on the skyq box, the TV switches on but the sqky box has switched itself back off (no picure on tv) so I have to switch the skyq back on again.

I guess I'll just stick with what I've got then.

Thanks again both
