@Chodley No it doesn't think the setting needs changing, it actually changes them and you have to go back into the settings and reset to 2160.

It doesn't occur everytime it's seems to be connected to the TV going through a start up cycle, wait a few seconds before putting Q on seems to help.

But it's clearly the box that is reading the info wrong.

No need to argue with everyone who has this issue.

It thinks the setting needs changing so it changes it. Is that clearer?

It doesn't change it for fun. I'm not arguing. I'm saying you (or Sky or them and the TV manufacturers) need to look at what makes it repeatedly think the TV can't handle UHD so it drops back to 1080i.

I had this problem too and  I found this workaround

Go to Settings- Set up - Preferences- On demand default download format - UHD

seems to keep the Q Box in UHD rather resetting to HD

Re: SkyQ box keeps re-setting from UHD to 1080.

I get both the drop back to 1080i and sometimes the message advising that the TV won't work with UHD.  Both are very annoying and have persisted ever since getting my Samsung Q90R.

I'm using a Sonos Arc and it can take several goes to establish the eARC connection.  Often, I get bad lag between image and sound (picture lags) which corrects itself if I turn eARC on and off in the TV settings.

I quite like the TV, the Sonos and the Q box as individual bits of kit.  I just wish they would work reliably together.

I've tried changing cables and have  the  latest TV  firmware but never manage to improve matters.

I am having a similar problem using an LG TV. I have found that setting the UHD to 8bit instead of Auto or 10 bit makes it work. Or at least for now. Hope that helps.

Re: SkyQ box keeps re-setting from UHD to 1080.

My Q box has done this on a regular basis for years and with a number of different TVs, LG and Samsung. It seems to happen when Sky box comes on whilst the TV is still starting up. To reset you need to switch the TV off then back on and then change the setting back to UHD. Making sure the TV is fully started up before switching the Sky box on seems to avoid the issue. Definitely not a TV issue but one it seems Sky can't fix

I'm having the same issue with a Samsung TV and Sonos Playbar. Very annoying. My Sky remote turns on both TV and the box so don't really want to change the way I turn on the TV and use two remotes.
