Re: SkyQ UHD recording won't play on Samsung UHD TV
Just got a UHD TV. I run the sound through my AV amp with a HDMI in and out to TV. The amp is not UHD compatible. The simple solution and it works. Connect the Sky box directly to to TV and connect the amp to the sky box with an optical cable. Simple!! Then set up your sky box to UHD and you are done.

The only slight downside is you can't get Atmos unless the port is eARC which I guess is unlikely on a non-4k AVR. But the amp might not support Atmos anyway or like me you might not be bothered to install the extra speakers.

Just so you are aware it doesn't need to be eARC to support Atmos - ordinary ARC via HDMI is sufficient for SKY & DD+ Streaming apps
I sometimes use my TVs apps to watch and happily listen to Atmos sound using ordinary ARC
Optical is limited to 5.1

Hmm
what does ARC not support then? There was some audio bandwidth limitation but my memory is clearly failing me.

I haven't studied the differences in depth & I think a few newer products (apple ones I think come to mind) don't support standard ARC
One of the main things ARC can't handle is higher bandwith audio so uncompressed Audio such as TrueHD & DTS Master (as used on Blu-rays etc which then includes Atmos on them which normally uses 7.1 TrueHDas its base) - this would be an issue for anyone plugging a player into the TV and relying on an ARC connection as these would need eARC
DD+ Audio streams (as currently used by most Streaming apps) are under the 1Mb limit of standard ARC

Samsung tv's made after 2018 don't support DTS anyway, there is a workaround though https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/tv-audio-video/how-to-troubleshoot-using-dts/#:~:text=DTS%20is%20...
