Sky q recording system

Can anyone explain where recordings made on sky q box are stored? I was unaware that a q box had a hard drive so it must be using Wi-Fi or cloud or similar, I'm not an expert.
. The reason I ask is that my q box apparently needs replacing and doing so will delete all the recordings I have on it? Why is this so if they are not stored on the box?

You've been misinformed, the Sky Q recording media is a hard drive

I am just another Sky customer!

All main Q boxes contain either a 1TB or 2TB spinning SATA hard drive.

Mini Q boxes do not, but they access 'their' Recordings from the main Q box drive.

It's the new Glass/Stream system which has no local disk, and does (kind-of/sometimes) 'cloud recording'.

Not 'delete' as such: they leave with the old box because there's no method of transfering them to the new one.

'Buy-and-Keep' content can be downloaded again.
