Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

Sky Q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days. Sky working with a Samsung tv with the One box so sky q is tucked away. This has worked faultlessly for the last 3-4 years but recently this has started to happen and now it only last 3-4 days before we need to reboot the sky q box.

Hi @Coach4Running

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Thanks for the tips @oldfella . I'll give that a try and let you know how we get on.

Re: Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

I am having a similar issue but it is happening several times a day.

It first started about a month ago, the main SKY Q 2tb (HDR) box just locks up and the fans start running at full speed. The only way to stop it is to switch it off at the mains and then re-start it. A SKY engineer came out and the first box he installed didnt work at all, he then tried a second box, which set up normally. He was gone less than an hour and the exact same thing happened. We are now on a third replacement and the issue is still happening, several times a day. It has gotten so bad that i have set it up with a smart plug so we can turn it off and back on again using Alexa.

The only thing i can think of is a dodgy software update that is causing the box to lock up.

Every corrective action has been tried, forcing a software update, resetting the HDD, disabling wifi and connecting it by CAT6 cable to the broadband, factory reset more times than i can remember, turning off the auto sleep function...

It is ridiculous..

We have the exact same problem  SO annoying - it has to be a sky problem or Samsung?

So, I finally gave up with EE and have gone to Sky. It was better if I used on WiFi and not the Ethernet but the EE tv box still kept crashing with the EE router. Sky engineers have been briefed on this EE issue (said the Sky engineer who visited) and there's little they can do.
so, after many years it's bye bye BT/EE and now fully Sky.

I am also experiencing this with increasing frequency. I have 3 of the Stream box's the main one down stairs has been recently replaced but is the most probamatic. The bedroom one happens less often. Both have the fault message that their is a technical fault on a blue screen. If I turn off. I still get internet. This seems to be on live TV Channels as can still stream channels. Pressing the reset button on the box has no effect after rebooting. Only unplugging waiting 10-15 seconds and plugging back in. Also frequently the box just turns off for no reason at all and have had the sound fail on several occasions recently. The units should not be overheating as they are in a holder that allows air to circulate freely and are away from any heat source. I moved to Sky as i had issues with Virgin internet dropping out, but little issue with TV. Now considering dumping Sky and going back to Virgin. One last note both the probamatic box's are connected to Samsung TV's the third box that has almost no issues is connected to a LG tv. What the fix or is it just a compatibility issue with no work round.

i am at my wits end and is causing arguments and resentment from my Mrs as I pay for Sky and made the decision to move to Sky that I am regretting.

That's not the same problem as this thread is about Sky Q, not Stream

I think there's some "compatibility" wifi mode the new EE routers have which has solved some problems but no idea if it's going to help yours.

I'm having the same issue. No mini boxes now working either .

Re: Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

Does anyone still have this issue, I see its from 2024 but its happening to me now.  I thought it was since we had our new Sky Q UHD box updated and a new mini one upstairs.  The enginner fitted them and now it turns on with a green light and then nothing happens and I have to unplug the power and reboot.  Like 3 times a day.  New boxes are coming again but after reading all these posts am now thinking its EE / Sky issue which is who we are with.  I really don't want to swap to Sky broadband if I am going to end up cancelling sky - have been a customer for like 17 years but am really over the cost and constant problems that the enginners can't answer or fix.  Any ideas welcome!

Re: Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

I managed to resolve the issue by connecting the EE router to the SKYQ UHD box via wireless by moving the router next to it during the setup, then moving the router back to its normal spot after it connected. The sky box did tell a few lies about not being connected to the internet for about 5 minutes but then managed to sort its life out and has been stable for a long time since. Whatever the issue is between EE broadband and SKY Q, it seems to be much much worse if wired together rather than being connected using WiFi.

ok thanks.  Mine already is connected via wireless which is why its strange but I will try disconnecting and connecting again using this method.  Thanks

New boxes will likely make zero difference.

Re: Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

We had about 4 new boxes and it made zero difference, in the end the solution I posted seems to have worked but I don't think it's a resolved issue in the software.

Re: Sky q Box Keeps Crashing & Needs Rebooting every 3-4 days

Ours is having to be rebooted every day. Recordings are failing, apps not working. We've had on screen messages saying software fault, no internet connection. It just doesn't switch on when we use the remote. Just the tv comes on and then we can't do anything other than switch off and back on at the wall. I've just started having to log back in to iPlayer etc as it's also lost all the app connections
