Sky connecting to Deco

Hi there

I've seen several forms already regarding this, but I cannot find a solution for a set up.

We set up Deco mesh system as the house walls are thick concrete. Every device in the house is working perfect apart from the sky Q and mini boxes.

We are not in the position to run Ethernet cables through throughout the house so I'm trying to connect them wirelessly through Deco mesh. They can connect momentarily, but then seem to create their own sky network after a while.

I can connect the sky Q through powerline ethernet connection on a Deco, but it would be a problem connecting all the minis through ethernet.

Any help would be appreciated!

The mini's need to be ethernet connected to work - they won't work wirelessly with a 3rd party mesh.

The backhaul will work wirelessly via the mesh but each mini must be ethernet connected to a node.

Re: Sky connecting to Deco

Thanks for that! Can they be powerline connected and then ethernet from a deco right beside a mini

Running Ethernet cables from the main deco are would be troublesome. Also have 4 mini Sky and a Q box so it looks like we either need many decos or to unfortunately run ethernet cables

I'm not sure about power lines - someone else may know.  I guess this solution would avoid the Deco completely.

For my setup I have a mesh node near to each mini and can connect via Ethernet.

The Q system was released way before home mesh was a thing.

Re: Sky connecting to Deco

Okay thanks but do you mean to avoid Deco by ethernet connection to the sky modem for the sky Q and sky minis? It defeats the purpose of a Deco system unfortunately.
So many deco systems out there must be someone with similar problems. Surprised Sky haven't addressed it

Each Q needs to be on the same subnet - best way is to connect each box to a node via Ethernet.  The back haul can the be wireless.

Sky won't/cant address it because of the proprietary QoS they use - used well before home mesh was common.

Re: Sky connecting to Deco

Okay so if I pick up some more decos that let's say have powerline and an ethernet port. Connect every sky box by a short ethernet cable it should work?

See if others respond - but see if you can test one box before investing...

you shouldn't need any power line connectivity if using a node to Q via Ethernet.  (All back haul will be wireless via deco)

There's an excellent post by @jonallport in this thread describing how it can work.

Re: Sky connecting to Deco

Thanks for that, yes it seems a great thread. More than likely will have to try Ethernet connections.

If anyone else has any experience too, any help is appreciated

thanks again!

Re: Sky connecting to Deco

I've done alot of reading about this and have followed the advice of others!  Many thanks to you guys for sharing your knowledge.  It has helped alot of people out!    So the best way is to hardwire each SkyQ mini box via ethernet, but make sure that wifi is turned off on each mini box (engineers menu) so they only comminucate to the Main box over Ethernet.    I turned them all off ages ago - only to discover recently they had been turned back on so if you start getting Connection issues just double check this!

I have a few mini boxes in our hourse (4) so now have quite a few M5 Deco's!    Can't be avoided - I'm not sure if people have tried powerlines?   But my electric wiring is old so decided against that!
