I have upgraded my TV to a full 4K 2160P 10 bit capable model (LG OLED65C34LA). I upgraded my Sky subscription to UHD and enabled 2160p 10 bit.
Unfotunarely my Sony amp (STR-DN860) only passes through 2160p at 8 bit so I connected my Sky Q box directly to the TV in order to get the full HDR 10 bit.
That means I have to connect the SkyQ box to my amp via optical cable. Most apps and channels are fine and are received in DD 5.1.
I saw some threads on a recent bug fix for SkyQ and F1 UHD that may have resolved the issue, but I am still having the issue.
I have tried all settings and also tired reverting back to 1080p HD but Sky F1 channel is still only available in DD 2.0?
Does anyone have any ideas. The last thing to try is to see if I get 5.1 if I connect the Sky Q box to the amp via HDMI again and see if HDMI audio works in 5.1 and if it is possibly an optical output issue as I imagine less people use optical.

I tried connecting the SkyQ box to the amp via HDMI and I get Dolby Digital + 2.0.
I tried updating the SkyQ box software, it downloaded an update and installed, but I remain on Q2600.000.05L (5spdqlw). It was possibly an update to the Netflix software? Either way I still only recieve 2.0 sound from Sky F1 UHD and HD 😞

Software updates are pushed out automatically to Sky Q boxes, if you attempt to update it manually it will just re-download the current software.
There was a thread elsewhere regarding PCM 2.0 only being output from the F1 UHD channel - it was allegedly fixed, but it's perhaps broken again.
It might be worthwhile you emailing viewer relations to alert them to this. Their email address is: ViewerR@sky.uk

Hi @millldew123
Bear in mind that when you select Setup (in Setting - System info - Software version) the message received will always be update this box with the latest software even if the box is already on the latest version.
Updating when already on the latest version achieves nothing and the box software is not refreshed.

The current showing of the Canadian 2017 is just 2.0
It is quite likely that it wasn't 5.1 back then

The replay of the 2024 Monaco GP was also 2.0..

SKy have had problems in the ast using 2.0 rather than 5.1 on some broadcasts on F1 UHD .
If it happens on a later replay, try the HD channel & report back
To test your set up try Alibi HD that I know broadcasts in 5.1 virtually full time - as I write this Father Brown - although note advert breaks revert to 2.0

As I mentioned in teh 1st post, I tried reverting to HD and Sky F1 still played in 2.0.
Alibi playing Father Brown in DD 5.1, no problem.

So the issue is just the F1 channels then. I wouldn't worry about it for now. Wait until the next live broadcast and see if it's fixed. Lots of other people will complain if it's still 2.0.

Yes I did read that but I asked about testing the HD channel with future more recent replays (or live shows) to try to isolate whether it was F1 source content or individual channel transmission problem.
As you get ALibi in 5.1 it is not our set up - just the issue with some transmissions on F1.
I tend not to watch the F1 channel in between the live Practice / Races so don't know if it is regular for replays & other filler probrammes to be in 2.0

this would not solve your problem.

Looking at the STR-DH790 as that handles Dolby Vision and full HDR10. More toys 🙂

Will see what this weekends live broadcasts are like. Cheers for the suggestions.

The amount I pay, I'm not that happy just living with it. It looks like people have had issues since Sept last year or earlier.

The live shows should be in 5.1 & on the odd occasion they have slipped to 2.0 I think they have usually rectified it after getting feedback.
If you find the lack of 5.1 an issue on replays etc then best to email Viewer Relations : viewerR@Sky.uk
