Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

Curious problem/issue - hope someone can help

Setup is Sky Q 2 Tb

Apple TV

AV Amp Onkyo TX-NR646

Samsung S90D TV (just purchased)

Projector

Before I got the new TV , Sky Q used the 4K out to the AV amp with no problem BUT this option of 4K output to the new TV doest not work (message says the HDMI port is not 4K capable)

So, Sky is attached to HDMI in ( Cab/Sat HDCP 2.2 port) on the Onkyo

Apple TV is attached to HDMI in (Bluray HDCP 2.2 port) on the Onkyo

Onkyo is attached  (from the ARC Out HDMI) to the Samsung TV eARC HDMI port

All works fine (4K output from the Apple to the TV) except I cannot configure the Sky Q box to output 4K .....says the HDMI port is not 4K cable which I know is incorrect, it is definitely 4K

All HDMI cables are fit for purpose ie checked them with the Apple TV @ 4K

I know I can connect the Sky Q directly to the TV but I do NOT want to use that solution as I use the Onkyo to switch netween the TV and Projector

So, any ideas on how to get the Sky Q box to output 4K ?

hi @Aidan+S

If I read your post correctly, the Apple TV works OK at 4K through the amp.

You may have tried it already, but just in case you haven't, can you try swapping the SKY Q box over to the port that the Apple TV is in on your Onkyo  &  see if it works, just for a test

Needless to say no idea why it used to work & now doesn't (assuming your old TV was 4K also)

Can I also check if you get the same problem with both 8 bit & 10 bit

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

Yes the Apple works fine in 4k

I did swap the SKY Q and Apple ports on the amp - no joy

Yes previous TV was 4k

I don't get the option of 8 or 10 bit, it stops me before that with the 'this hdmi port does not support 4k...'

hi @Aidan+S

It may not help but try a full power down restart of the SKY Q box

I knew it was a long shot but worth the try.

Sorry, I can't think of anything at the moment as to why it used to work but doesn't with the new TV especially as it allows the Apple TV to pass through

The only other thing I can think to suggest is to try different cables for Q to AVR & maybe AVR to TV

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

Yeah, I changed the cable from SKY Q to the  AVR...no change

I haven't changed the one from the AVR to the TV (COZ THE Apple works just fine), but I'll try a new cable tomorrow,

Tx anyway

I know I am fully clutching at straws.

A couple more things to try just to see if we can debug this & really clutch at straws.

1) Try a full power down (unplug or switch off at mains) the Onkyo & TV

2) Just as test to see what happens - plug SKY Q directly into the TV eARC port (I know that is not the correct way to cable up but just want to see if you still get the problem with that specific port not going via the AVR)

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

I found a similar issues with your amp when googling.

There didn't seem to be any common solution as such but a few people found that turning off CEC on their TV and/or amp did the trick.

Something else I found was an owner of a Samsung Frame couldn't get 4K from his Sky Q but the following advice worked - Check Input Signal Plus is switched on, this needed for external connections.  Go to Settings-General-External Device Manager-Input Signal Plus

I was going to suggest that. Should only affect whether that input accepts HDR / 10bit colour but worth a try.

Why this is off by default is a mystery, I suspect some energy rating swizz.

If the AppleTV is happily sending HDR then I guess this option is already on.

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

Please just connect the SkyQ box directly to the tv., unfortunately the issue is with the receiver not sending the correct signal to the tv. Compatibility issue that a number do have..

What happens if you disconnect the projector?

Tried turning off CEC (TV and then AVR and then both) .... no joy

Input Signal Plus is on already...

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV

I can do that and it works ie outputs 4k to the TV

BUT then I can.t use the AVR to switch SKY output to the projector
