Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV
Wowser..that worked...Sky Q now configured to output 2160 8 bit....
I have no idea why that worked.......
Now I Have no projector tho'
Any ideas on why that worked and is there any way to reconnect the projector (it's only HD)
Anyway thanks for everyone's efforts ... much appreciated

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV
What make/model was the TV you had before the new Samsung? Was it an older model?
It could be something to do with the Samsung having newer HDMI specs and the amp not allowing full pass-through of the video signal to the TV. I can't find much documentation online about that particular model of Onkyo but what I have found doesn't list much in the way of detail about whether it can pass HDR, just 4K 50/60Hz.
Can you set the output of the Q box to the native 1080i? Will it pass this through the amp to the TV? It might be worth setting the Q box to this first then power everything off at the wall. Power back on and perhaps re-sit the HDMI connection from the Q box to the amp and the amp to the TV to generate a new HDMI handshake between them all.
If you can get a picture at 1080i then try changing the video output on the Q box to 2160P. Try 8 bit first, then there's no HDR involved. I've a feeling that the Onkyo might not pass HLG HDR and Q needs to detect a TV capable of receiving this in order to enable 10bit.

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV
Tx, the previous TV was an LG 55UF770V from 2016..
The Onkyo specs definitely say it supports HDR pass through
1080i works perfectly
I will try your suggestion re setting SKY to 1080i, power everything off, reseat the HDMI cables
Power everything back on and try thr 2160 setting...
Will report back later

Re: Sky Q won't allow UHD 4K to new TV
Well I tried those options but it will not enable 10 bit 2160p, only 8 bit.
I'm OK with that for now
Thanks again everyone - you've been very helpful and I've learned a lot

Suspected the amp must have been passing the display info from the pj instead of the TV back to the Sky box.
I don't know why it worked with the old TV.
When you have it outputting 4k 8bit now, does the projector work? Does the amp downscale it?

No - the projector is just 1080 - the mp does not downscale it .....

But it accepts a 2160p signal if the Q box is set to that? Or do you have to change it to get an image on the pj?
