Re: Sky Q new qled tv pixalation in dark scenes ?
Hello thanks for your help
i did try those settings helped a bit ?
but it is definetly the sky q box
when watching through an app on tv no problems?
i wish sky would treat all sky q users with a bit more respect,
i understand they are a buisness and want everyone to go to sky glass or pucks
but i dont, i have been with sky years so i think they should make a new sky q box?
maybe they might even get more subscribers?

I'm afraid they won't be making any new Sky Q boxes. The entire satellite TV service will likely shut down at the end of the decade as it's simply too expensive to maintain satellites in orbit and the necessary infrastructure on the ground.
Comcast, who now own Sky, are very much focussing on streaming being the future of TV, much like most other TV service providers.

Try playing around with LED local dimming in brightness settings @steveblue8
Like anything in TV picture settings it can be a rabbit hole but worth a try.
( These are relevant to an LG, assuming Samsung has similar)

You'll need to change the settings on sky (audio visual) from 2160p to 1080p. That reduces the resolution back to HD but it gets rid of that annoying pixalation.
Not much regular TV content available in UHD yet.

Re: Sky Q new qled tv pixalation in dark scenes ?
Hello
after all your help i think i have sorted the compression black artifacts
so i am posting this to help others
if i keep the sky q box on uhd there is a trade off of sorts
the epg is slightly blurry but the picture is sharp,
i know not much uhd is broadcast at present
but with uhd 10 bit colour settings on sky q box no black artifacts
so i hope this might help someone else
thanks
steve

I assumed that's what you had it on to start with?

Re: Sky Q new qled tv pixalation in dark scenes ?
no I did not have it on those settings as the sky q box outputs to 1080i
and sky boxes being old was told by a sky engineer to set it to 1080i
so my new TV would upscale better than the sky box
and by the way I found your reply rude
never assume !

Re: Sky Q new qled tv pixalation in dark scenes ?
It wasn't intended as rude. It was intended as a request for clarification. You specifically said in the opening post you were using a uhd hdr box. That implied, at least to me and in the absence of any explicit evidence otherwise, that you're using uhd and 10bit colour.
others clearly thought the same because some samsungs have had issues with Sky's use of HLG HDR causing dark scenes to look really bad so they suggested using HD... which it turns out you already were.
The Sky engineer was talking absolute rubbish (now that was rude) since setting your box to 1080i wouldn't allow any use of UHD, the sky box would downscale everything to 1080i losing all the detail and any HDR colour, and would be a complete waste of the capabilities of your TV.
I think by "sky box outputs to 1080i" you're probably referring to the fact all the HD content received by the Sky box is 1080i - that is true but a lot of streaming apps content and all UHD stuff is much higher res than that.
so yeah in short it's usuallly best to use 2160p / 10bit. 1080i was 2006 era state of the art. Sky Q boxes are old but they're not that old.
