So I'm not sure if I've reported this before, yet would of thought this would of been fixed by sky by now.
The problem is while watching on the Sky Q mini box, it will lose conection to the Sky Q box, then 20 seconds more it will lose network connection. I then Wait 5- 10 minutes and then ill see in the Sky Q mini setup, that network will reconnect then 5 minutes the sky q box will reconnect and it will all works again.
Before you say they rebooting this and that I have.
I've tried useing skys hub and my 3ed party router the same thing happens, so not router/sky hub related. Tried factory reseting the Sky Q and the Sky Q Mini, yet within 24hrs it will do it again, I've changed power saving modes you name it, I have more then likely tried it, I've even had a new Sky Q box as the last was overheating and guess what the mini did it with that box to.
So this could be a issue with the Sky Q mini box or sky know about this and being slow to fix and admitting there is a problem.
Also the main Sky Q box has issues with sound on my tv. That needs to be fixed. With dolby atmos. I have to pause live tv wait 10-20 secs then play and sound is fine! TV model in link, if it's my new tv I have contacted samsung and they say it's the Sky Q box

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSky hub and the Asus? Are they both running wifi networks? How far apart are the mini and those?
Sounds like maybe there's a source of interference tripping it up but it might be a borderline wifi signal.
If you use a wifi sniffer like apple's Airport Utility, what strength signal can it see from where the mini is?
The TV one is odd. Have you / can you try both optical and hdmi?
p.s. "would have / would've". Sorry, I know I'm being a &£@*, can't help myself, pet hate.

It not wifi related, i can explane more but not going to. But am a expert at this, The issue is there boxs.
I had a sony tv after a year I got burn in image, still have the tv kind off, I gave it to my brothers girls. But that tv would be 7 years old now.
When I was looking at the tvs in currys when i got the samsung, the sony that was there top model had a bad view if looked from a side angle.

If you want to know how I set my net up there is a big post about it on the sky forum. Double Nat setup Guide
P.s the mini box problem seems to be if watching programs on the planner for 3-4 hrs then swap to a sky app like Netflix, start looking and then it happens, the last cupple of times.
Also had the main Sky Q box lock up. Could turn tv vol up down but could not turn change the sky box channel or anything else. Had to pull the plug.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreOk so you don't have wifi on both, you only had to say 😉 Out of interest, why did you choose double NAT? Can't just run the asus on the Sky hub's LAN side network as an AP?
I also consider myself a (reasonable) expert on networking and I have no idea how sky does its wifi. I reckon it's a proprietary protocol akin to udp. I do think that whatever it does differently with SkyBB vs 3rd party ISPs probably depends on using the sky hub wifi (which is obviously ridiculous) but it definitely isn't stable and your box sounds like it might be on its way out.
I'm sure you know that whatever wifi channel your Asus is on, the Q will set up a separate network if it is connected to a 3rd party ISP, which can cause a clash. Not 100% sure if this happens when you have a 3rd party router->Sky hub.
That mini behaviour is curious. I have a feeling streaming goes direct to the internet while everything else goes via the Q, wonder if the change between the two (if I'm right) is what's upsetting it.

Thanks for the replys, I did not mean to be rude to you in anyway. Sorry it come out that way, it was not intended.
Yes I know the sky Q still broadcast on 5g, so they can talk, ive got the sky on 80hz channel 36, my asus is on 160hz channel 48 on the 5g range. I use a app called wifi analyser to check siginals when I need to.
When I say I tried via the sky hub I disabled my asus, factory reset the sky hub then connected all up to the sky Q an it still happened.
Reason I use double nat, in AP I would lose all the advance features from my asus device.

But it would be nice for a sky employee to have a say. It's not the first time I've report this of my Sky Q issues with sound, and resetting. yet I've had nothing from them.
I'm paying a lot for a service that is not working correctly.
An calling there just run from a text book guide. Would I get anywhere??

A update..
So it still happens daily but I noticed it the may sky q box that is failing when I stop watching as explained above on my mini box, it causing the may sky q to reset.

I don't think Sky tech support, unless you get lucky and get escalated to a networking deep expert, have the skills to diagnose this
Your two wifi networks are completely overlapping. A 160MHz wide channel at 48 uses the same spectrum as an 80MHz channel at 36 as per this diagram
(north america use the same as us for this)
In theory there is a protocol that allows devices to wait for each other. My money is on the sky mesh not supporting it because it wants constant streaming so is greedy, and it's quite old tech now (honestly don't know if that wifi standard was in place back in 2016, might have been)
Anyway might be worth trying getting them separated.
The sound dropping out issue is different of course.

The sky box's talk on 5g channel 38 my wifi is 52. Yet 5g can handle it even if it was 38 on both as it don't have the same problems as 2.5, think it was you that had advised using a higher band before.
But still daily the same issue.
Also the main sky q box is locking up when swaping channels, control will stop responding then the TV will go black then it will work after pressing the remote again.
Also had pixies on the sky menus too

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYou said it was 36 and 48 above.
5GHz has plenty bandwidth but if a 2.4GHz signal clashes with it by broadcasting on the same frquency at the same time , data gets lost, has to be resent. Unless the wifi devices cooperate nicely.
Can't guarantee that was causing your disconnects but I'd want to eliminate it from my enquiries if it was me.

For 2.5 I use channel 9 see pic.
A pic of my 5g

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreSorry which ones are yours in that and those channels you mention (which aren't shown on the graphs) seem to be different from the channels up-thread unless I'm mixing up two different people.
Edit: ah yeah you were talking a out 2 5GHz channels earlier, not the 2.4 channel.
Just some minor pedantry - it's 2.4 not 2.5 and 5Ghz not 5G, that's a mobile signal standard. But I knew what you meant

Sorry was just typos.
On the 5ghz sky is Sky8e10e my wifi is Wizzard.
If I disable my router, the box's work fine, it's only when I use my mini box watching a series on the planner, then if you start watching say neyflix, it then for some reason rebooting the main sky q box, after being in a sky app for only 1-2 minutes.
it seems the sky planner program is not being stopped when starting a sky app, this could be the issue.
P.s also if I could edit old posts like the main post, info would then be more correct, my writing is not the best, sorry about that.

Evern more glitches
