Sky Q communal dish wall plate

Hi everyone

Just moved into a flat that has a communal dish, it has a wall socket with a 'Sat1' and 'Sat2' outlet on the wall. I've plugged in a male to male cable into the back of my sky Q box. My box used to work perfectly in my old house (with own dish) but now says it's not getting a signal.

I've looked at old threads and changed to SCR on the engineer menu but still nothing.

Any thoughts? Thanks for any help

I've connected the box to WiFi but still not allowed to watch anything streamed, recorded or otherwise!

Ollie

Hi @Ollie1231

Did you have to change the setting from Wideband to SCR?

If you did you have to power cycle the Q box after the change.

hi @Ollie1231

Are you sure the Communal system  for your apartment is set up for SKy Q ?

They often need an 'adapter' to get the SCR commands to be understood and the correct signal sent

Re: Sky Q communal dish wall plate

I am not sure no, it sounds like that could be the issue!

How would I know if it has been enabled?

Re: Sky Q communal dish wall plate

I'm guessing that's why sky said I need an engineer.  Just a shame that's not for almost 2 weeks

Sounds like someone needs to physically do something to a cabinet somewhere then to activate my feed?

Re: Sky Q communal dish wall plate

They wouldn't put a wall plate up with sat1 and sat2 on unless there was a fairly modern system available would they?!

Yes , as mentioned they usually installed an adapter into the Communal System cupboard

I have found an image of such an adapter -  Unitron adapter

These adapters often serve a couple of apartments

Edit Sat 1 & Sat 2 terminalsare typical for Satellite connections used by SKY + /  HD & Freesat boxes & TVS

Re: Sky Q communal dish wall plate

Cheers, appreciated everyone

No idea where the cabinet is or how to access it. Hopefully I can find a contact for the management company somehow.

Assume I don't pay for sky while I've got no service for 2 weeks?

Re: Sky Q communal dish wall plate

Yes I have but they can't come for two weeks.

So I just optimistically plugged the box in to see if it would work. Sounds like I'll need to wait for the engineer!

Sky Q was launched in early 2016, so the communal satellite distribution system in a building of that kind of date may well have been specified for Sky+ HD instead.
